Adware pop ups appearing frequently while browsing the internet can be very annoying. When you are trying to do some actual work, these pop ups are an unwanted distraction and take up time while you deal with them. It is normally quite easy to rid your computer of these irritating pop ups and there are a number of steps to go about it.

These problems can normally be dealt with yourself, an IT specialist is not required. They should be able to be eliminated by adjusting the options in the computer settings. However, if the system has been infected with adware programs, the problem is bigger and presents more effort to eradicate.

Setting the privacy settings to block adware is the first step to eliminate it. Within the Start menu there is the Settings tab. Go here then to Control Panel. You should see an icon for Internet Options. Once you are in Iternet Options, you will see a tab for Privacy. You can check a tick box here for turning on the Pop Up Blocker. As long as there are no Adware programs on the system, this should fix the problem of annoying adware pop ups. It can also help to install the MSN and Google toolbars on your browser as these add a little extra security.

The process to block adware may be a bit more complex if there is spyware on the system. If pop ups are still appearing after the setting have been set to block then this indicates the presence of such spyware. There are some other signs to look out for when malicious adware programs are present, such as the alteration of the browser home page. It may have seemed to change to a different page on its own.

Malicious software can be taken out using one of the many great removal applications out there. Some good ones are; Ad-Aware SE, IE-SPYAD, Spybot Search and Destroy, and HiJack. Without these, the only option is the add or remove programs facility on Windows. Ths is also in the control panel. Calling in a professional technician as a last resort will always solve the problems, but these types of issues can normally be fixed yourself with a little effort.
