Charging into adulthood was all I had dreamed about for 18 years. Daydreams of independence and a successful career were the thoughts in my youth. I pursued education and employment opportunities with such fervor that I was sure I would learn it all to have it all. Knowledge of people, places and things was most important to succeed in life. I set off to one of the best colleges to learn the right things and meet the right people. Two years of unfulfilling experiences found me transferring home to attend school.

If we continue to live on this planet, we have to get older. There are various physiological changes that we experience as we go through the process of aging. Ignoring the legends of immortal beings that walk the planet, we all grow older physically. Genetics, supplements, a positive attitude, plenty of water, exercise and healthy diets can help us look young as long as possible, but the best we can expect is a cause of death that reads: “died of advanced age.” I remember the slogans, “live fast, die young.” Now that I am almost 60, I look forward to life after 100 years of age.
Some people call them angels; some call them your guides. I call them your committee. Who are they? They are individual personality energies, some you have met in this life and some you have not, that comprise your personal coaching team and cheerleader squad. You cannot be a physical human without them. And they are there to help you live the best life you can. What is Truth? A difficult question; but I have solved it for myself by saying that it is what the âvoice withinâ
Many times I see people who are stressed out, unhappy, overwhelmed, angry and afraid. And these are the “spiritual” people. I have to ask myself “What isn’t working?” Then I see people who are happy, self-aware, and enjoying their life. I have to ask myself, “What is working?” The interesting thing is, from outward appearances, there is no rhyme or reason really as to who is happy and who isn’t. Lack of money is blamed for many ills; however, I have met a number of people who have no money and are full of life and love without stress. So money obviously is not the key.
Life is amazing, isn't it? Whatever stage you're at - teenager or retiree, in work or out of work, single or married, parent or grand-parent - life is sure to throw you the odd curve-ball or two, to test you out a little. And when life turns sour (or sweet!) then it's always great to be able to ...
Life is for living! And it doesn't really matter what's going on in your life right now - whether joy or despair or boredom - this is still true. Obviously a life filled with 'good stuff' seems to be a life that is easier to enjoy, I agree. But any life - yours or mine - really can be enjoyed, ...
Are your goals SMART goals? I mean to say are your goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-based? If not, then you may not get very far in what you set out to do today, this week or this month. SMART goals are the 'what?', 'why?' and 'when?' of goal setting. That is, what do you want to achieve? Why do you want to achieve it? And when do you want to achieve it by? And if you don't put your goals in such a framework you really are likely to forget your goals (eventually) and replace them, instead, with a new set of goals.
I have learned that there are many sources of misery and suffering in this world. It seems that every belief system has its pet theory. Buddhists believe that desire causes all suffering. Other religions claim separation from God (sin) causes suffering. Others believe that rejection of what is happening at any given moment causes suffering. Yet still others claim that fear causes suffering. I offer the case of sentimentality as a major cause of suffering.
I read recently that a very famous spiritual writer was calling on all “light workers” to pray for healing for the world and for an end to the world’s problems and strife so that love and happiness could rule supreme. This misunderstanding is at the core of the issues challenging our reality at the moment. Not coincidentally, the world stock markets are plunging (again) and financial uncertainty is again at our doorstep. Financial doom and gloom are causing suffering all over the planet.
Personal development is a broad term. As such, it needs to be defined more clearly than simply being explained by end results. Personal development (or self development) is the process of improving ones self. The most common definitions of personal development imply: improving self awareness or self knowledge, finding your identity, discovering your passion, improving your potential, enhancing the quality of your life, realizing your dreams, or fulfilling your aspirations. Wh
Religions and philosophies teach us that there are three kinds of karma. There is (1) the karma that we are born with; (2) the karma that we are creating at any one moment; and (3) karma we will encounter in the future. All of these karmas are created by action, whether by thought, word or deed. It is this karma that keeps us bound to the wheel of death and rebirth, for we keep coming back to pay off these karmic debts over and over again.
I don’t know whether you are intrigued, shaking your head in dis-belief, or laughing at the notion of something so seemingly absurd as managing paradox - that mental phenomena where two things cannot logically co-exist, but indeed, do. In our daily lives paradox shows up in the form of ...
Many of us are affected by a terrible affliction, a disease that causes suffering and misery in billions of people. The most amazing symptom of this disease is that most people don’t even know that they have it. Other symptoms include headaches, stress, restlessness, heartburn, ulcers and other digestive issues, loss of sleep, shortness of breath, memory loss, low self-esteem, substance abuse, and absent-mindedness. It is a condition loosely described as “obsessive thinking.” This is not to be confused with obsessive compulsive disorder, although I believe the two are linked.
I used to think that the most powerful energy in the world is love. There were many reasons for this, as love changes everything. Love is the creative aspect to creation, it is the energy that flows through us all, it is life. The love of the creative energy of the universe created us, sustains us, renews us. After experiencing true happiness, I now believe that there is a stronger force, the force of happiness.
If you are a student and have an urgent assignment due and you may be going through a writer's block or are too confused to start working on your assignment; don't worry, because you can order a sample assignment to clear your mind of doubts. The sample ordered will look exactly like your assignment. Of course, you need to use the sample as a reference in writing your own assignment and give due credit to the writer. There are so many companies who will provide the sample as
Many spiritual teachers and new age gurus talk about raising our vibratory rates. What they are really talking about is changing the way that we relate to the world, each other and our minds. Most spiritual beliefs include the proposition that we have a soul, or spirit, that is separate from our minds and thoughts. It is commonly referred to as the “higher self”, or an awareness of the perceived and the perceiver. When we can observe our minds thinking, our personalities working, our bodies doing, we can stop being held captive to these aspects of ourselves and begin to become aware.
A student asked me a very good question the other day, and I had to think awhile before I responded. It is a question that many people never ask themselves and as a result miss an opportunity to apply some very important teachings. The question was “how do I know whether I am happy or just in denial?” When we talk about denial, we are talking about a defense mechanism that our minds use to ignore pain. We suppress unpleasant subjects and bury traumatic memories in order to function. Many times this suppression can lead to anger that is in turn suppressed, and a vicious cycle forms.
In my experience and observation the most tragic and insidious of all addictions is the addiction to suffering. The clinical definition of addiction is “compulsive repetition of a known behavior with adverse consequences.” In other words addiction is repeatedly engaging in actions that knowingly cause adverse results. There are two persistent issues connected with addictions, (1) what is causing the addiction and (2) how do we stop it?
A GIFT FOR THE BILLIONAIRE I had met the man in the fall of 2009. He had invited me to his palatial home in the suburbs of Lagos, Nigeria, for a twenty four- hour intensive coaching on lifestyle modification strategies for coping with the stress that was incident to his inordinately busy itinerary as a globe-trotting businessman. For the usual reasons of confidentiality, I will call him Mr. Femi Williams. Quite out of the blue, I got an unexpected call from him a month ago. “Hello, doctor, this is Femi Williams. How have you been?”r
My name is James Gray Robinson, and I am a spiritual/energy/faith healer. Earlier in my life, I was a trial atto ey in North Carolina, from a family filed with lawyers and medical doctors. My twin brother is the medical director of the Guilford County (NC) Health Department. My background and training would normally dismiss energy or spiritual healing as stuff of wishful thinking or downright quackery. I have discovered that alte ative medical techniques are effective and complementary to medical science. This article examines how and why alte ative medicine works.
One of the most often asked question of spiritual teachers by students is “what is my purpose”? Students who study spiritual concepts want to have some idea of why the universe operates in the manner it is experienced. They want to understand so that they can stop suffering. An understanding of the “big picture” is helpful to reduce anxiety and give us something to feel more comfortable. The Wheel of Karma created by the Tibetan Buddhists gives us that bigger picture along with clues of what we can expect. The Wheel is a symbolic representation of the nature of life.
During the 20 years in which I worked with various people helping them to overcome numerous health problems, one question I was frequently asked by my patients and clients was âonce I have regained better health, what can I do to keep it?â Reaching a healthful state is only half the journey. Knowing how to live consciously will enable you to enjoy long-lasting health and balance. This article will give you some idea of what it means to practice conscious living.nnPrimaril
I was contemplating my navel the other day and realized how much we have going for us in this universe. The truth is that no matter what your circumstances, this is a kind universe and everyone in it has the primary motivation to work in favor of a peaceful, bountiful life. The only obstacles in our way are created by the projection of fear into our present and future circumstances. Granted we are far away from universal peace and cooperation, but happiness is readily available anytime we want it. Love is pouring into all of us in amounts hard to perceive much less feel.
I suffer, primarily because I am constantly comparing myself to others. I make irrational and unjustified conclusions and assumptions about how I am doing by observing other people. I may be doing my best, but I will not feel satisfied or fulfilled if I observe other people further down the path or having more “success.” Conversely, I may not be doing my best but I will feel relieved or smug if I observe that I am ahead of others or more successful than others engaged in similar activities. I suffer because I was trained to think this way by an educational system that thought that way.
I am troubled by all of the empowerment literature that discusses how we disempower ourselves by thinking disempowering thoughts. This line of thinking recommends that we think empowering thoughts, make empowering choices and live empowered lives. I could not put my finger on why this huge cultural phenomenon did not ring true to me. Then I remembered that Albert Einstein once said, “You can’t solve a problem with the same thinking that created it.” The problem is not how I am thinking; the problem is that I am thinking.
So you lost your job, and now you had to make a few âdecisions.â The first and foremost decision would probably be to downgrade to a less expensive neighborhood, which although not always, often means a neighborhood with a higher crime rate. While youâre so busy looking for ways to get rid of gratuitous expenses, you might neglect to notice the biggest expense of all: being burglarized. Besides, what good is saving money if youâre dead, right? Luckily, Iâve had more
I was reading Forbes Magazine the other day because it had a headline about how the recession had affected the richest people in the world. (“Billionaire Bust” March 30, 2009). The article summarized the net worth losses of the 20 richest people of the world. They were: Bill Gates: 18 Billion dollarsr Warren Buffet: 25 Billion dollarsr Carlos Helu: 25 Billion dollarsr Larry Ellison 2.5 Billion dollarsr Ingvar Kamprad: 9 Billion dollarsr Karl Albrecht: 5.5 Billion dollarsr Mukesh Ambani: 23.5 Billion dollarsr Lakshmi Mittal: 25.7 Billion dollarsr Theo Albrecht: 4.2 Billion dollarsr
I have been receiving numerous emails from people who are panicking about the future. They are worried that they won’t get what they want or they will lose what they have, whether it is a job, a mate, respect or serenity. The state of the world economy is a breeding ground for anxiety and turmoil. Great, isn’t it!
“I can’t give you a sure-fire formula for success, but I can give you a formula for failure: try to please everybody all the time.” Herbert Bayard Swope “Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.” Winston Churchill The path of success goes through your heart, not your wallet.
I saw a sign that read, “Wake up every morning with the thought that something wonderful will happen that day”. As a spiritual teacher and healer, I thought that was one of the most profound things I have ever read for several reasons. First, it acknowledges that most of what we experience in our lives is manifested from our thoughts, although many times it comes from our subconscious thoughts. Second, I am convinced that how we start our day dictates what kind of day we will have. “Start our day” means what is going through our minds when we first wake up.
Everyone love quotes, especially life quotes are often repeated in speeches and conversations that are meant to inspire others. Although it is just words, it hold the ability to affect people deeper than regular words can. It makes people to think, relate with the truth they know and from there, creates an acceptance from their point of view. Over decades ago, if we want to find life quotes, we have to find quotation dictionaries that are hard to find. These days, we have the
I read an article about how one college’s students hates another college and its rival student body. This arises out of a sports rivalry spanning over one hundred years. My initial reaction was wondering how in the world we are going to have peace on this planet when even simple friendly sport competitions provokes hatred in the Bible belt. This is not merely a frivolous academic animosity; it breaks into violence from time to time. I observe with great compassion that there is something seriously ignorant and misguided if is this is what the institutions of higher learning are creating.
I constantly amaze myself how I can steal unhappiness from the jaws of bliss. It takes quite a bit of effort at times to make myself unhappy. However, because I am so clever, I can do it even when there is absolutely no reason to be unhappy. I realize that it is a learned trait, developed over 50+ years of training, and hard to change. I am encouraged that I realize this, because what I am aware of can change. However, it takes quite a bit of courage and honesty to admit this to myself, especially when I convince myself I am right.
Many times in our life we have to say goodbye. We say goodbye to loved ones who graduate to higher dimensions through the illusion of death. We say goodbye to people we become attached to that leave us on the physical plane. We say goodbye to children who grow up and become adults. We say goodbye to most people on a daily basis as we move from one physical location to another.
The source of all misery and suffering is the illusion that we are separate from God. This illusion creates the fear that we will never get what we want or we will lose something we have and don’t want to lose. When this fear arises, it creates another illusion that if we don’t get what we want, we have done something wrong or we are in opposition to “God’s will”. This raises the question of what we really want.
Many people ask, “how am I supposed to let go”, or “what does it mean to let go?” Most people have attachments to others, to money, to beliefs systems (“BS”) or to self-image. People are most attached to how other people think about them. All of this leads to suffering. In order to let go, we have to detach ourselves to preconception, prejudice and judgment. It is not a physical action, to “let go” of someone doesn’t mean to physically leave or to throw them out of the house. What “letting go” means is detachment and opening your heart.
Intelligence Quotient or IQ We all are well aware of IQ or Intelligence Quotient which is parameter used to determine academic abilities of an individual. IQ score is derived based on several standardized tests designed to access intelligence. It tells about personâs ability to learn, understand and apply information to skills, logical reasoning, word comprehension, math skills, abstract and spatial thinking, filter irrelevant information. A person with high intelligence is
I had a astrological reading from Stephanie Azaria the other day. After studying my star chart for a while, she told me that according to the positions of the planets and stars, I was born to struggle because the struggle increased the speed of my growth. It was my destiny to feel like I was doing something wrong because it made me be more conscious of what I thought, said and did. In other words, it was my karma to always feel like I was making a mistake, and that I was a mistake. This was the grace that fueled my growth as a spiritual being.
I receive a lot of emails from various self-improvement or spiritual development gurus and websites that contain messages of various ways to improve my life, my health, my relationships, my bank accounts or my enlightenment. There certainly is a lot of stuff out there competing for my attention and my dollars. I came to the realization that there must be a lot of people out there that don’t like what they are experiencing in order to manifest all of these people who are suggesting how to improve it.
It is my experience that the ancient teachings (God) come to me in times of my greatest growth and help me to understand that everything is in my highest good. I had the sublime and transformational experience recently of not getting what (or who) I really, really, really wanted. Specifically, I met someone that I have a great deal in common with, and share many common beliefs, profoundly enjoy every minute with this person and was convinced that I had finally found my soul mate. The kicker was that this person is in a relationship that they are not willing to leave.
There is a story early in the Old Testament of the Bible called the story of Cain and Abel. This is a multi-layered story that explains much about human suffering. The story goes that two of the original humans in the Judo-Christian tradition (Adam and Eve) had two children after getting evicted from the Garden of Eden. The children’s names were Cain and Abel. Cain grew up to be a farmer, and Abel was a shepherd. Both were brought up by their parents to worship the Jewish God and to sacrifice a portion of their crops/herd to God in gratitude of their prosperity.
It is April, the time of mating, regeneration and rebirth. Winter has long fled and summer approaches. Sap is rising in the trees and blossoms, new leaves, and growth surrounds us. For single people, thoughts turn to romance. For people in relationship, thoughts turn to rejuvenation. The reality of today’s culture is that many people are also beginning or finishing the long process of divorce and separation. The global rate of divorce is at an all time high, and no country is immune to its effects.
There are so many books out now proclaiming that we can use the Law of Attraction to create abundance, love, wealth, happiness, etc. etc. The trouble with these belief systems is that it is all mental illusion. It fosters the belief that if you follow their secret recipe, you will get what you want. These “attraction gurus” want you believe that if you are not getting what you want, you must be doing something wrong. If you would just do it right, then you would be happy.
Without doubt spiritual applications are scientific in nature. Rishi literature describes in detail, Yajna methods, Yoga practices, meditation, Mantra Science etc and their influence on the body, mind and intellect and also warding off of gross and subtle diseases. If man makes apt use of these he can live a long life as mentioned in spiritual texts. Today Western Medical Science is indeed deeply studying mental and psycho-somatic diseases. And yet right since ancient times Y
We are taught that beauty is only skin-deep, that we can be happy and successful even if we do not meet societies ideals of beauty. But unfortunately, recent research shows that people who are considered more attractive do indeed have an advantage over those who's looks are not considered as appealing. Attractive people seem to have better job opportunities, higher incomes, and a greater likelihood of success in their dating life. rnIt's easy to see why this is the case. Whil
The life of each human being, whether the primitive man or the ultra modern man, is comprised of one common element â Dissatisfaction with what he already has and the Desire for more in life. Actually, its like the two sides of the same coin. Dissatisfaction leads to desire and the unfulfillment of the desire leads to Dissatisfaction. So, its not possible to separate the two of them. Dissatisfaction and Desire go hand in hand.nnA Dissatisfied mind is not at ease with itself
How can fear of failure be such a big problem to so many people? And why do we all worry so much about failing that we engage in all kinds of self-sabotaging activities - many times subconsciously - just so we do not begin something that we may not successfully complete? Well, this is another case of one of those fears that are learned as a child, alas. In the beginning, children learn to talk, learn to walk and explore their world of 'constant new' without trepidation and without fear.
Mercury has just gone into retrograde. For those who know anything about astrology, this is a time for Murphy’s Law to run riot. Electronics, relationships, and everything in between have been known to fall apart. I, and many of the people I know, shrug and blame it on the stars. I have come to realize that this is the way of the victim and only fosters victim consciousness.
Oh, how I punish myself with New Year’s Resolutions. This year, for the 57th year in a row, I have decided to get fit, lose the fat shaped like an inflated inner tube around my abdomen, and not be afraid to take my shirt off in public this summer. Yeah, right. I can say that I am a warehouse of facts on nutrition, genetics, exercise, supplements, self-analysis and articles on losing the fat and getting ripped like the professionals. I still have self-image issues despite all of this knowledge.
Everyday Dilemma: Should I keep my own counsel and accept my partner’s unpleasant behaviors? Or, should I let him know that I reject them and want him to change? There’s something very odd about us humans. We invite others to be our intimate friends, lovers, and partners because we either like them, or love them. Then, oddly enough, we set about trying to change them. Sound familiar?
Numerology From birth to death, you’re a number. In most cases, you are a series of numbers. The physical side of numbers are used in some concrete way. For example, without numbers, telephone companies would not have a structure. However, there’s an invisible side to numbers. In the world of the metaphysics, this is known as Numerology. Numerology is an ancient and accurate science. It seems numbers and Numerology have always existed together. In my collection of books on
Many people wish to be enlightened or find happiness in life. There are thousands of self-help books, thousands of self-help workshops and even more philosophies and teachings promising to make people happy or enlightened. It is possible to become enlightened and happy by studying all of these resources. It is far easier to become happy and enlightened with a teacher.
Everyday Dilemma: Do I honor my thirst to be alone for awhile, or do I follow the longing in my heart to be together with friends and family? For years I believed intimacy meant being together with my beloveds - all the time! Everyone I knew suffered greatly from my youthfully exuberant misunderstanding! As a woman, it seemed natural for my life to revolve around the notion of ‘we’. Unfortunately, it did so without my knowing the ‘I’ that made up my part of the duo. When I realized I could meet this ‘me’ by being alone with myself, I was both relieved and scared.
One of the strangest fears is the so-called fear of success. Fear of failure is understandable - it 'hurts' to fail, to have your limitations revealed - but to actually fear that you'll get what you've been working for all your life... Well, it just sounds daft, doesn't it? Well no, actually. Fear of success is very real and very serious, and quite often the worst thing about this fear is that it goes unnoticed. And that's because the person 'suffering' from it seems to be happy and seems to be successful, but they could have so much more!
In the United States, we are coming up on a national holiday known as Independence Day. It is an annual remembrance of a day when the thirteen British colonies in North America agreed to an act of treason against the crown of England. With some really good karma these men defeated the armies of England and we became who we are. The irony is that even though we have freedoms unequaled in any other country in the world, many people are still slaves and prisoners to their own minds.
Several years ago Michael Gerber published a book called the E-Myth. The fundamental premise of this book was that an entrepreneur is someone who works on their business, not just in it. The person who only works in their business, who effectively IS the business, is called a technician. An entrepreneurâs focus is on developing standardized processes and structures, a business blueprint as it were, to enable the business to be equally effectively whether he runs it himself,
Belinda: You often distinguish between thoughts, feelings, and intuition in your classes. Let’s talk about feelings first. I see many people using feelings as their main criteria for making major life decisions and relationship decisions. They’ll talk about their feelings as if they’re the most sacred and true part of themselves. Do you believe that feelings are that reliable? Rabbi Finley: Feelings are definitional of the limbic system and the ego self. That’s what feelings

People are strange, don't you think! They worry about this and they worry about that. And then 'this' and 'that' usually never ends up happening. But whilst they were worrying about something that didn't happen, a few more minutes or hours or days of their lives passed by. As Homer J Simpson would say: "D'oh!" And it's the same when it comes to people's top 10 fears, really. So just why do people have these fears - why are these fears so common, and what do these fears say about us?
The Everyday Dilemma: Do I take care of myself now, or everyone and everything else first, including my career? Most of us truly wish to infuse our lives with love, compassion, and caring. And, you have probably been enticed by the common notion that bringing these words to life requires you to ‘be’ and to ‘do’ things in a certain way. Trying to live these words out loud can produce a lot of confusion and frustration as you juggle meeting your own needs and the needs of your beloveds – significant other, children, parents, siblings, friends, and of course, your career or job.
I have been teaching people all over the world for almost five years about all sorts of magic. The magic of healing, the magic of prayer, the magic of focused thought. One of the most popular teachings, which I have given over the years, is one of the most simple, yet effective, magic words. That word is WOW! There are several reasons why I believe it is one of the original magic words on the planet.

I donate a lot of time giving advice to people on “ask the experts” sort of websites. There are two questions that always seem to be repeated. The first is “what is my purpose in life” and the other is “how do I increase my self esteem?” The ironic twist to these questions is that they both have the same answer, regardless of age or circumstance of the person asking. The amazing thing is that after giving this same answer hundreds of times, I have never had anyone write me back and say “you were wrong!”
These are challenging times, with vast economic, environmental, and spiritual changes. Itâs easy to feel overwhelmed with stress, worry, or depression â to feel out of control, ungrounded. Many books, seminars, workshops, and meditations concentrate on the power of forgiveness. Even I have taught numerous workshops and written about forgiveness. Forgiveness allows us to let go of resentments and negative thinking that will eventually make us sick. The notion is that we have to forgive everyone who has harmed us, including ourselves. I have come to the realization that philosophy only scratches the surface and needs deeper analysis.

Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays are upon us. Millions of homes will have families sitting down to massive amounts of food, warmth, cheer and stories. Many more homes will be vacant, foreclosed, silent and empty. Even more will be filled with abuse, fear, loneliness, depression or sorrow. It is easy to feel grateful when our bellies and bank accounts are full. It is not so easy to feel grateful when they are empty. This article is not for the ones who have many things to be grateful about. This article is for the ones who feel that they have nothing to feel grateful for.

All perception is projection is one of my favorite teachings of Derek O’Neill. It is one of those ultimate truths that apply to every facet of my life. Sometimes it is so basic that I totally miss the true meaning of the teaching. It is the basic premise of the higher teaching that we create everything that we perceive for our own enlightenment. I had a great example of the operation of this teaching in action this winter.

How do we solve a problem like fear of commitment, or commitmentphobia? Well, we begin with understanding what the problem is all about, I guess. And, to give the answer away right at the beginning of this article, it's about fear of the unknown. Yes, some might argue that it's also about fear of rejection, too - and that is true to an extent - but fear of commitment is much more about not knowing what's around the corner.

They spend a fortune going to spiritual/alte ative healers, shamans, gurus, psychics or energy channels to get “unblocked”. It has occurred to me that all of this is a huge illusion that is totally unnecessary.
Whether you classify yourself as a “go getter” or not we all desire to accomplish or achieve certain goals and experiences. When we do not reach our objective within the time frame we want, our mental, and emotional state of being becomes frustrated and often irritable.
