Hodgkin lymphoma is basically caused by a change, or mutation, in the DNA of a type of white blood cell called B lymphocytes, although the exact reason why this happens isn't known. The doctors suggested that in most of the cases, Hodgkin's lymphoma occurs when an infection-fighting cell called a B cell develops a mutation in its DNA.

Because of the mutation the cells tend to divide rapidly and to continue living when a healthy cell would die. This kind of mutation leads to accumulation of a large number of oversized, abnormal B cells in the lymphatic system, where they get outnumbered than the healthy cells and cause the signs and symptoms of Hodgkin's lymphoma.
The scientists have found that some risk factors that make a person more likely to get Hodgkin disease, but it’s not always clear exactly how these factors might increase.

The risk factors affectan individual’s chance of suffering from a disease such as cancer. There are different risk factors that lead to different kinds of cancers. Some common risk factors like smoking, alcohol can be put an end to reduce the effects, but factors like age, genetic condition or family history, can’t be changed.

A person suffering from Hodgkin disease can have one or multiple risk factors, which is sometimes hard to detect the main risk factor behind the lymphoma.
Here are some risk factors identified by the cancer specialists at the Paras Cancer Centre that leads to Hodgkin Lymphoma:

1.A person’s age- This disease is most often diagnosed in people who are between 15 to 30 years, as well as to those who are older than 55.
2. Sex-It has been observed that males are slightly vulnerable to develop Hodgkin's lymphoma as compared to the females.
3.Weak immune system- If a person has a compromised immune system, because of any other illness, then they are more likely to suffer from Hodgkin's lymphoma.
4.Past Epstein-Barr infection- In the cases of illnesses caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, those people are more likely to develop Hodgkin's lymphoma than the people who haven't.
5.Lymphoma in the family- If a close family member has suffered from Hodgkin's lymphoma then it will increasean individual’s risk of developing it.

The cancer specialists in Patna also suggested that the treatment for this disease totally depends upon the stage of the disease which are classified into four stages. The treatment is mainly done with two types of procedures, one is radiation and the other one is chemotherapy.
