Stomach Ulcer Symptoms: Home Treatment Advice
Written by Danica Susan
Stomach ulcers will probably be one of the most common conditions that a lot of us suffer today. Ulcers are usually viewed as minor conditions and, therefore, not given the importance that they need. People seem to think of ulcers as part of everyday life. What most people do not know is that stomach ulcers can lead to gastrointestinal bleeding and, more often than not, can lead to death.
Stomach ulcers can be due to a variety of factors. In today’s society, stress, nicotine, caffeine, and an unhealthy diet would be the major causes of ulcers. If given prompt care, ulcers can be placed under control. However, you should know how to follow a doctor’s orders as well. When he says “No caffeine,” he really means it. What else would be the use of getting a consultation if you are not going to follow his instructions?
Other than following doctor’s orders, there are also those little things that you can do to minimize the exacerbation of your ulcers. Here are some tips on how to control stomach ulcer symptoms:
- Take your medicine. In most cases of ulcers, over-the-counter medication will be prescribed. They typically include antacids, H2 blockers, and maybe some proton pump inhibitors. Follow your doctor’s instructions to the letter. Do not forget them. These medications are all centered on gastric acid production. So if you miss a dose, you can expect stomach ulcer symptoms to be back with a vengeance.
- Change your lifestyle. That will mean taking as little as possible of the following: alcoholic and carbonated drinks, caffeine, citric juices, and nicotine. These are some of the specific causes of ulcers and should be minimized at all costs. It will even be better if you can stop them altogether.
- Learn to relax. Stress is another great factor that causes ulcers. When a person is stressed, hydrochloric acid production is increased, thus aggravating ulcer symptoms. If you have a stressful, high-powered job, find a relaxation strategy that will work well for you. What is the use of amassing all that money when the process makes you sick?
- Decrease your spices. It has been found that a diet rich in spices might worsen ulcers. Spices and other hot foods are extremely irritating to the stomach lining. Be careful with what you eat. Try to observe your symptoms and avoid those types of food that can further aggravate your condition.
• Take your vitami
K supplements. There has been a recent study that states that vitami
K can actually help with curing stomach ulcers. Vitamin K can help in preventing bleeding and promote healing.
- Take small, frequent meals. Small meals prevent your stomach from being overly full, thus decreasing your discomfort. They also help protect the damaged stomach lining from gastric acid.
About 20 millio
Americans get stomach ulcers every year. About 4,000 of them have to get surgery because the damage is too great to be controlled by just mere medication, and 6,000 die of ulcer complications yearly. Do not wait for it to happen to you. Consult your doctor now.
