By now, most people even in the mainstream are familiar with the movie, “The Secret,” which attempts to address the Law of Attraction in easily understood terms & visual images. Correspondingly, most are familiar with the general concept of what you focus on is what expands.

Though the concept overall holds truth, that there’s significant information missing from the generalized material depicting the Law of Attraction paradigm results in disappointment and even angry feelings of betrayal for those who feel they’ve practiced the philosophy but without results. The concept has been sugar-coated for palatability, which minimizes the effort entailed, especially for those new to personal growth and spiritual development work. What’s missing?

The deeper truth is that you attract what you ARE, not what you want. BECOME the qualities that you desire to manifest. It takes work – dedicated, deliberate, consistent work to be able to manifest at the level expressed in those marketing statements and media depictions of the law of attraction.

Here’s a practical, visual example: Say you’re building a house. You first prepare the foundation. Carefully. You clear the land. You make sure it’s level for the foundation of your house. Then and only then can you successfully build from that carefully laid foundation. You wouldn’t think of just slapping a house onto uneven, rocky land filled with tree roots and who knows what else. To translate that visual into your spiritual manifestation work: you must be mature and responsible enough deal with your emotional baggage. Release what’s no longer useful in order to make room for the new. That takes practice.

Using that same house-building visual: To skip the foundational work needed in order to manifest your desires using the Law of Attraction is like choosing to build a house starting with the 3rd floor. Who would even try that? Makes no sense whatsoever. Of course your structure wouldn’t hold!

If you truly desire to put the Law of Attraction into action: handle your baggage. Remember that you attract what you are, and that it takes inspired action to create what you desire in your life. Get quiet and listen to your inner guidance, or arrange to receive guidance from a trusted, practically-focused professional. Then you’ll be informed and have knowledgeable support for how to reach your goals – which action to take when, when to rest and allow your inspired actions to take shape.

Yes, the resting part is important as well, to find the pulse of your Spirit. Otherwise, attempting to manifest is like gathering exotic ingredients, mixing up a special cake, putting it into the oven to bake and then opening the oven door every 90 seconds. Of course it won’t bake properly, any more than your intentions will manifest if you constantly fuss with the energy. It takes focused attention, and the finesse of the right inspired action at the right time.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: There are no shortcuts. Sitting in the corner humming, “om” won’t automatically bring you what you want. All the vision boards in the world, no matter how detailed, won’t manifest your desires unless the foundation is clear and the right inspired action is taken. When all those factors are responsibly put into place – BAM!! It may look sudden to others, but you’ll know how much work you’ve done to create your newly vibrant life.

Miracles and blessings,
Dr. Renee
