James Redfield is the author of The Celestine Prophecy, the international bestseller which is an adventure parable about a spiritual journey to Peru. The Celestine Prophecy portrays a model for spiritual perception and actualization that has resonated with millions of people across the world.
Redfield has been interested in human spirituality all his life. Born in 1950, he grew up in a rural area near Birmingham, Alabama and early on, was motivated by a need for clarity about spiritual matters. He was brought up in a Methodist Church that was loving and community-oriented, yet he was frustrated by a lack of answers to his questions about the true nature of spiritual experience.
Redfield studied Eastern philosophies, including Taoism and Zen, while majoring in sociology at Auburn University. He later received a master’s degree in counseling and spent more than 15 years as a therapist to abused adolescents. During this time, he was drawn into the human potential movement and turned to it for theories about intuitions that would help his troubled clients. In 1989, he left his job to write full-time.
Redfield has since written several bestsellers and has co-written and co-produced The Celestine Prophecy movie, a feature-length film which is based on the book. With his wife, Salle, he now hosts the Global Prayer Project, a bi-weekly telewebcast which offers guided prayer meditation.

In 1997, Redfield was awarded the highly prestigious Medal of the Presidency of the Italian Senate at the XXIII Pio Manzu International Conference in Rimini, Italy. In 2000, he was one of only two recipients of Humanitarian of the Year honors from his alma mater, Auburn University. He was given the same honor by the International New Thought Alliance. It is a story of the discovery of an ancient Peruvian manuscript, which contains nine insights for spiritual living that will help humanity move toward a completely spiritual culture on Earth.
