Gabrielle Roth is an internationally renowned theater/music director, philosopher, and movement innovator who has created her own form of ecstatic dance, the dynamic moving meditation known as the 5Rhythms™. She is the best-selling author of Maps to Ecstasy, Sweat Your Prayers and Connections, and has released 18 cutting-edge, trance-dance music albums through her label, Raven Recording.
For more than 30 years, she has worked to heal the deadening split between spirit and flesh in settings as diverse as schools, hospitals, corporate offices, theaters, and growth centers. Her workshops, performances and retreats have an electric intensity that mates contemporary currents of rock music, modern theater, and poetry to the ancient pulse of tribalism.
Her international institute, The Moving Center, oversees the teaching of her work through schools in New York, California, and Europe, and has certified over 250 teachers worldwide.
Gabrielle’s home base is Manhattan where she teaches experimental and traditional acting. She has directed Off-Off Broadway for the One Act Theater Co., and has been a member of the PDU of the Actor’s Studio. She most recently directed productions of Savage Love, by Sam Shepard and Joseph Chaikin, at The Culture Project (NYC), One Arm Red (Brooklyn) and the Hip Pocket Theater (Ft Worth, TX).
Gabrielle has devoted her life to exploring and communicating the language of primal movement and its theatrical expression. Thousands of elders and young people, dancers and “dance-phobics,” those who can show off and those who can barely show up, those with bad backs, bum knees, and wounded hearts, have all responded to the drumbeat of Gabrielle’s call.
