You may be familiar with essential oils for their nice scents.
But they are also the answer to many problems.
- Do you have trouble sleeping?
- Do you have migraine headaches?
- Do you get sick often?
- Do you want to make your home greener and free of harsh chemicals?
- Do you have a lack of energy?
- Do you need help unwinding?
Essential oils can help with all of these things and more.
Essential oils are a unique gift from nature. They are very literally the essence of the plant and essential to their life Essential oils help them to grow, defend them from plants and insects, environmental conditions and disease. Essential oils are aromatic liquids derived from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds and are concentrated plant material. It takes 5,000 pounds of rose petals to make one pound of rose essential oil!
According to research, application of oils to the skin can offer an additional 21% oxygen availability to every cell in the body within 20 minutes of application, and the oil molecules are gone in 2 1/2 hours so there is no toxic buildup. This is so important because oxygenation gives our body more energy and helps protect us from disease. There are over 70,000 different kinds of molecules in plant oils, many of which mimic the molecules used by our bodies for support, maintenance, and regeneration.
However, less than 5% of essential oils sold today are therapeutic quality. In order to achieve therapeutic-grade classification, each essential oil must achieve the designation naturally, without excess manipulation and refinement, and meet specific criteria in four key areas: Plants, Preparation, Purity, and Potency. The designation of therapeutic quality is qualified for only after gas chromatography testing. For best results, the essential oil must be pure and unaltered.
Research shows that when used aromatically, applied topically, or taken internally, therapeutic quality essential oils can calm, energize, balance, purify, and rejuvenate the mind and body. A few drops of lavender essential oil can be used on minor cuts, burns, sunburns, and rashes for their soothing and anti-bacterial effects. Peppermint oil can be used and to soothe digestion by placing a drop in your water and drinking it. Inhaling peppermint oil can help alleviate motion sickness and a drop on each temple can get rid of headaches.
Essential Oils can also be used to help you go green in your home, not just in your medicine cabinet! I use 10 drops of lemon or Thieves essential oil in to in a spray bottle with water as my counter cleaner. A few drops of Purification on a washcloth in the dryer as a dryer sheet can help remove smoke, mildew, or pet odors. Thieves essential oil blend kills airborne bacteria when diffused and any number of oils can be diffused for their pleasant aromas. Orange essential oil can be used to repel and kill fleas. The more you use them, the more uses you find!
