Our mental attitude determine how we view our life, and how we react or act to the events that happen during our life time. Our beliefs determine our mental attitude. If you believe that you have no control over your life, then, when events happen, and they will happen (otherwise, our lives would have little or no meaning, if everything was "good" all the time) you will be at the mercy of these events like an autumn leaf is at the mercy of the wind.
With the proper mental attitude, what most people consider adversity or failure, the person with the right mental attitude sees opportunities. It is the determining factor to whether the person emerges triumphantly or sinks to the bottom. The people with the right mental attitude believe that they can turn any circumstance to their favor and focus only on solutions and don't drown themselves in the problem itself or the hopelessness of the situation. He or she will experience just as many negative events as any of us, but he or she uses them as stepping stones toward higher achievements, learns and grows with every one of these opportunities.
One of the main differences between successful people and unsuccessful people is that successful people have failed many more times than unsuccessful people. You see, people with a poor mental attitude sees a "failure" as sign of doom, or decides that "this is too hard" or "I don't know what I'm doing" or "it's not meant to be" or whatever other excuse he or she can come up with to quit, to stop trying to avoid failure. But this is really an illusion, because the real failure is in quitting, in giving up. By giving up, they don't really give up the opportunity to fail, they are giving up the opportunity to succeed.
When you are working toward a goal, there are no failures, only different degrees of success. Take one step at a time. It is not only about the end result, after all, that end result may last for only a short period of time. It is the getting there that takes the longest, so enjoy it. See each step as a step closer to your goal whether you think that step was in the direction of your goal or not. Believe me, if you learned anything from that step, then it was positively in the right direction, regardless of what it looks like. Things aren't always what they seem.
When you are faced with a problem, don't waste hours agonizing over it. Don't focus on the problem, focus on the solution. Then, open up your wings and fly, take action! Take a risk! There are no guarantees that everything will turn out the way you planned it, but I guarantee you that will have NO opportunity of success if you are afraid to take a chance.
As Lee Iacocca, former Chairman of Chrysler Corporation, said "So what do we do? Anything - something. So long as we don't just sit there. If we screw it up, start over. Try something else. If we wait until we've satisfied all the uncertainties, it may be too late."
Life is not about living it perfectly, is about living it. So, enjoy the good moments, and learn and grow from the not so good ones. If you have this mental attitude, you will enjoy ALL of the moments of your life. There is "perfection" in imperfection. It's all good. Mental attitude IS everything.
