Common sense tells us that breathing deeply is the best thing we can do for our health and that’s true if you happen to be in a mountain forest or on a remote beach. How else are you going to get enough life-giving oxygen if you don’t breathe deeply? But if you live in a city breathing deeply may actually not be that good for your health, due to intense air pollution so characteristic of most of the big cities in the world. And the truth of the matter is that most of us don’t get enough oxygen for optimal health regardless of where we live. Fortunately, there are things you can do to minimize the potentially-harmful effects and maximize the beneficial opportunities in the current situation.
For one thing there isn’t as much oxygen in the air as there used to be. Scientists have captured samples of air from 150 years ago enclosed in icebergs; when they analyzed it they found that is consisted of between 38 and 40% oxygen. When they tested the air in major cities of the world today the overall oxygen was 18 to 20%, half of what it used to be 150 years ago.
Not only that, in some large cities such as Tokyo, Mexico City and Chicago the oxygen levels were between 13 to 16%! We won’t even talk about New York City and Los Angeles where it can get even as low as 9 to 10% in congested areas on bad days! That’s barely enough to sustain life but there are easy, inexpensive ways to flood your body with oxygen.
For example, one could carry a small vial of stabilized oxygen drops, which are available at most health food stores. A short squirt of oxygen drops can be added to almost any drink to provide that extra boost in oxygen the body could use to sustain energy and stamina.
Although trees and plants produce oxygen, forests world wide are being cut down to meet the needs of an ever-growing human population. That’s one of the reasons why we need to add stabilized oxygen drops to our daily diet.
Researchers know that lack of oxygen clearly plays a major role in causing cells to become cancerous; virtually all heart attacks come down to a failure to deliver oxygen to the hardworking heart muscle; and nearly all chronic pain, suffering and diseases are caused by a lack of oxygen at the cell level.
It’s for these reasons that I encourage all of my patients to keep a stock of stabilized oxygen available for whenever they drink water. Keep it out of hot liquids as it may lessen its effectiveness. Ten to twenty drops of stabilized oxygen—available at most health food stores—in whatever you’re drinking will enable you to maintain healthy levels of oxygen in your body. It’s a relatively inexpensive way to survive well in the twenty-first century.
