Are you a disorganized person?

Is that what you are telling yourself when you can’t find your report in the morning or your socks don’t match or you walk in 10 minutes late to a meeting?

Or are you telling yourself something worse?

That you are lazy.

That you are stupid.

That you are worthless and will never live up to your potential.

I’ve heard all of these accusations—and worse—come out from the mouths of many of my clients.

Relentless disorganization, chaos, and feeling out-of-control have a way of undermining our self-confidence, our self-acceptance, our self-worth.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Here’s why…

Disorganization is a system problem, not a people problem.

And ‘getting organized’ is a learned skill.

Often we acquire labels growing up like ‘disorganized’ or ‘procrastinator’ or ‘accident prone’.

And then these labels slowly begin to define our experiences. We see evidence of these ‘character defects’ all over the place. They become our truth.

But I believe that none of these are personality traits unless you allow them to be.

What would be possible if you no longer viewed yourself as disorganized?

Would you be more willing to trust yourself?

Would you be less willing to condemn yourself?

This is where change occurs.

One of my main goals as a professional organizer coach is to help my clients trust themselves again.

To give them systems that actually last so it becomes clear their disorganization has never been a people problem.

In order to do this there is often a core belief that needs to be questioned first.
