Every caravan manufactured 1992 onwards is registered with Caravan Registration Identification Scheme (CRiS). These vans carry a unique 17 digit identification number (mostly starts with SG ........). You can find this number stamped on the caravan chassis. It is imprinted onto its windows in the bottom right hand corner. Check for VIN number as well. This is very much like having a number plate on a car and it is important as the same.
If you are being sold stolen used caravans, you may find this number removed from the windows without leaving any trace of them as if it was never been there before. There is also a possibility that the seller will tamper with the number, a number 6 will have been turned into an 8. Plus, you can hardly find the chassis stamp. This might have been altered or removed completely by drilling out.

The receipt must have buyer’s full name and address, the seller’s full name and address, 17 digit ID numbers of the caravan, the model number, the date, the price paid and have the signature of both the parties.
