Stepping out from one of the huge chain convenience store/ gas stations and car wash I notice a young women drying off her car. Just freshly cleaned on the bright warm spring day she lovingly dried the car as if it were a luxury sedan. She admired this car with every stroke of the towel. She expressed her graduate for getting her to work and back to her family. She treated it with respect and admiration. Looking more closely at the car I realized the car was not Porsche, Lexus or Cadillac but an everyday run of the mill older sedan. The doors were slightly dented and the paint peeling. The once glassy, shiny coat of paint was now dull. Yet, she devotedly dried this car as if it were the most beautiful vehicle in the parking lot.
I watched her devotion to that car, the way she caressed it, loved it, and respected it; even though it was not in top shape anymore. I wondered why is it that we can’t do that to our bodies after a shower. Our bodies move us into the direction we want. We demand a great deal of our bodies yet we treat them with crude comments about our dimply butt or thunderous thighs.
What if we treated our bodies like she did with her older sedan when we toweled off? Expressing our gratitude for all it does for us. I bet you would find you will start taking care or yourself better. Resting when you need to or choosing an apple over a cupcake when hungry.
Our doors may be dented and our paint may be peeling, but our bodies are providing us with the ability to love, laugh and move from one place to another.
Express your gratitude for your body every day after your shower. We all have a few dings, ripples and dents but with just a bit appreciation they tend fade away so our inner beauty may shine.
