It’s funny how we run around every day working for what we believe we need, when God clearly tells us to seek Him first and He will give us everything we need. Why do we continue to look everywhere for the things we think we need when all we have to do is go to Him? Do we really believe we can live for God when we put other things before Him?
Matthew 6:33 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
Many of us go through the days, weeks and months in the same routine of getting up going to work or school, visiting friends or family and taking care of our needs and wants. Soon the months turn into years and we look back and wonder where the time went. We wonder why we didn’t take more time to make a difference or live more on purpose for God.
It’s time we stopped now and looked at where our priorities are. We need to see where we are spending most of our time and if we are using our time how we feel we should be using it or if we are using our time according to how God wants us to use it. We need to see first the Kingdom of God above all else.
It takes planning and purposefully doing what we should do even when we don’t feel like it to live on purpose for God and put first the things He wants us to do. It takes determination and prayer to focus on what He wants us to focus on rather than the things of the world. It takes wisdom and careful decision making to turn away from the things we want to do and spend time with Him. However, we are told to live righteously.
We aren’t going to know what God wants us to put first in our lives, however, unless we do spend time with Him. We aren’t going to know what steps He wants us to make or what purpose He wants us to accomplish if we continue to do the same things we do every day that are not a part of Him. If we are to obey Him and seek what He wants us to do, we have to put Him first in our lives daily.
It’s time we took stock of our lives and determined what or who we are putting first. We need to look at last week and make a list of all the things we did. We need to look at yesterday and take stock of all we did, said and accomplished. We need to ask ourselves were these things what God wanted us to do or were these things what we wanted to do.
When we spend our time focusing on our needs and wants, we can’t do the will of God. When we put our needs and wants before what God wants us to do in our lives, we aren’t obeying His word. Above all else, we are to seek first the Kingdom of God, live right and trust in Him to give us all we need. When we turn away from the things of the world and put God first in our lives, then He will help us make a difference.
