Do you know what your ideal life would look like?
If you truly want to change your life, that’s a big goal and you are probably well aware that until you define that goal and all its elements, your chances of attaining it are slim to none.
A life-changing goal is much like a recipe: there are certain ingredients you need to mix together, perform certain steps in the right order, and then bake your creation.
But how do you get started developing a recipe from scratch? Use these four magical questions to get started on your own recipe to change your life from boring and unfulfilling to exciting and affirming. Remember to keep track of your answers and the results of your visualization so you don’t forget the recipe.
1. What details does your ideal life include?
Think about the specific ingredients of your ideal life and the date by when you want to accomplish them all. Who will you be in your perfect world? This is the overall picture, what your recipe will look like when it is done. It helps to write it down for future review.
2. What will your new life look like?
The answer to this question is an exercise in envisioning the future. Take a few moments to close your eyes and let your mind float away. Picture yourself doing what makes you feel best, then pan out and pay attention to the details. Who is with you in this ideal life picture? Where are you located? What’s going on? Use all your senses, including smell, taste, and hearing. Think, too, of how you are affecting others. All these details function like the herbs and spices in a recipe, making it simply delicious.
3. Will you remember your goal?
It’s important to keep your goal in mind at all times. Don’t lose sight of it! You can make your future life vision an innate part of your thoughts by revisiting it often and imagining it truly happening over and over again. Relish the emotions that accompany this memory. But do have patience – it takes time for your creation to “bake”.
4. What steps do you need to take to reach your goal?
Envisioning your goal and determining the necessary ingredients still won’t bake your cake – it takes action! Every recipe includes steps in a specific order and your life-changing recipe isn’t any different. Start somewhere, even if it’s only doing something small – but start. It’s helpful to list all the steps that go along with your ultimate goal and include a date. When the time is right, you’ll have the necessary ingredients as long as you take the time to answer these magical questions first.
Don’t let fear and indecision hold you back from attaining your ideal life. The recipe you create now will serve as both inspiration and motivation to keep working toward your goals and keep you on track to enjoying a delicious new creation.
