1. “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” - George Bernard Shaw
This quote has always caught my eye! The quote states that life isn't something you just find easily and that allowing your life to be decided by something or someone you found during the course of it isn't enough too. Life is truly based on the choices, paths and the opportunities we create for ourselves throughout your life. This quote keeps each one of us conscientious of how one leads your life.
So guys, using your summer vacation conscientiously is given. Choose such programs or courses that not just keep you busy but makes you shape your thoughts and personality. Sign up for any short term courses in soft skills, vocational guidance, robotics, sport activities which may help you find the spark within.
2. “It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”
—The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
This quote, in a way, sums up the entire gist of the book ‘The Alchemist’. Many of us fail to appreciate the fact that we have the choice to make a dream come true. Not just any dream, but dreams that have the possibility of coming true. Better yet, we can take advantage of that choice to carry out our passions and live out our dream. This quote was the motivating factor for me to start my entrepreneurial dream at 35, it is that time when I pursued my dream so hard which materialised a possibility that touched many lives. Loving every moment of this journey and grateful to see how a vivid dream can make your life so interesting and purposeful!
3. “‘What day is it?’, asked Winnie the Pooh.
‘It’s today,’ squeaked Piglet.
‘My favourite day,’ said Pooh.”
—The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne
Children’s books have a lot of complex thoughts, values and ideas in them. They may seem as child’s play or read however, once you read and recognise the relatability and complexity of these books, you will realise how often they can strike a chord in your lives. This quote simply helps you to appreciate a simple belief of living life that today is precious and can be your best day! Live today; live in the moment! Because today is the best present that life can give you!
Easier said than done at times when all doors come and close at our face. But hey, if only you see around for the day, you can open yet another door and make this day joyful. If only all adults consider their ‘today’ with 86500 possibilities. With 24 hours and 86500 seconds, you can make today as your best day of your life, everyday!
3. “Be yourself and people will like you.”
—Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney
With 20 million unique readers online for this wonderfully essayed book ‘Diary of a wimpy kid’ was truly an inspiration to many like me who live through their school years as mere weaklings. The Author Jeff Kinney sketched out the growing pains of school life and introduces a new hero who symbolises the pain and challenges of being a middle school kid. This book has given us many inspiring quotes and changed our value system. It reinforces the importance of being true to yourself than creating a façade to be accepted and liked by others.
4. It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.
– J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
5. We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.
– J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
What a profound impact each quote of J.K. Rowling brings on you! One could be an ace left-hand batsman, however, if not taken right choices and lived up to them, one couldn’t have see the maestro cricketer that India gave us in Sachin Tendulkar ! When I look back at the early days of my childhood, I was born to be an artist, however, it is the choice of pursuing a Management career that shaped out my today. There are many students who may not however have the right guidance to make right choices and succumb to easier or fairly possible options in their career. In turn, those easy-to-achieve options shape their today as well as tomorrow. If they only change their mindset, they could achieve more than their abilities or current ease.
6. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.
– Chuck Palahniuk, Diary
The quote is written by Chuck Palahnuik in his book, Diary. It says that while we all will die and are immortal, we can create something that creates legacy and memories of lifetime. The focus can be given on the second half of the quote that simply creating or becoming a part of something that brings immortal influence on others. Everyone lives, and everyone dies. That is the circle of life. But what you leave behind can have influence for years, generations, or even longer. While some people leave a world-wide impact, even the change we leave in our daily life, family and friends can be significant. My point is that we are all role-models. And we can work towards making an impact on the world that we live in through our choices, behaviours, actions, and responses.
7. “When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.”
– Alexander Graham Bell
8. “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”
– Thomas A. Edison
9. “Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.”
—Les Misérables by Victor Hugo
The quote ‘one door closes and another one opens’ was and continues to be highly motivating for those who do experience failure, will soon have an opportunity to try to succeed at something else. It also emphasises the plight of such a person who is self assumed and complacent to all such doors of opportunities that may open and missed. This expression is often used to encourage someone to keep trying after they have had a disappointment or failure. Edison’s quote also reinforces the belief that even after your greatest failure, you can try for one more time. Success needs countless times of trials and does not mean that the attempts have failed. The quote given by Victor Hugo also is quite encouraging and hopeful and tells us to rise up when we have faced the darkest moments of our lives.
10. Nothing in the world is ever completely wrong. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
– Paulo Coelho, Brida
This quote is the mother of all! It made me take a step back and relook at all judgements that ever played in my mind of people who were always put up at the wrong side of life. A broken clock is obviously going to be unreliable, as it cannot properly tell you the time. So whenever you look at it, the time it shows, it will be wrong. But, even a busted clock that has its minute and hour hands stuck in place will still be right twice a day, hence the clock is correct on two occasions at least. This is comparable to all those people in your life who seemed wrong to you, gave you wrong advises, or simply put foot in their mouths all the time, even they can still be correct at times.
This phrase was brought in early 18th century and used in a magazine called The Spectator, by Joseph Addison and Richard Steele, from the year 1711. And many such interpretations were brought in thereafter and in the book ‘Brida’ by Paulo Coelho.
These are pearls of wisdom by the thought leaders of all times and I hope their short explanations and interpretations given were simpler, impactful and user-friendly for your life and career as well! Get inspired and inspire the world around you!
