How to Read a Humming Bird Fish Finder Screen

Hummingbird fish finders are popular in the market. Anglers use them to view what is going on underneath the boat. Reading the Fish Finder Screen

• Press the button on one side to activate the startup screen. Scroll by using the arrow keys. 
• On the simulator display, locate the temperature indicator on the left side. Below, there is an indicator displaying time, distance and the average speed of the vessel. 
• The speed of the boat is somewhere at the center of the screen in large fonts. The side with a number on the left side of the screen estimates the depth.
• The display bands highlight varying depths. A thin line represents a compact surface. A thick line indicates a muddy surface, while a bumpy or broken line is an indication of rocky surfaces. 
• The presence of fish icons on the screen indicates fish. Get the exact location by analyzing different colors on display. Orange denotes a fish directly below and blue is for fish on the edge of the sonar. Get the depth of the fish on the screen above the icon. 

Interpreting Humming Bird Side Imaging 

The side images are thin lines on either side of the boat. The beam goes over 240 feet on each side and gives a visual representation of 450 feet below the vessel. If you have a hummingbird fish finder with a Dual-beam plus Sonar, use it in depths of 1500 feet with a side viewing of 200 feet. 

Interpretation of the Screen in Side Imaging Mode 

Newbies need time to understand side-imaging views. The fishing boat is on top of the screen, the middle section with a dark profile has sonar beam data. As you move, you will see everything running underwater cast as some shadows of different sizes. 

Side imaging displays large fish as objects taking the spindle shape. The sonar shadows indicate the fish position. Interpretation of the Screen in Down Imaging Mode 

The down imaging displays the surface below the boat. The images in this mode use high-frequency sound waves emitted in very thin slices. You can tell what the object is without knowing its exact position. Using the down imaging, you can gauge the exact distance and depth of every ditch passing underneath. It also helps in pinning the exact location of the target object. 

Varying Types of Underwater Structure 

Once you understand the sonar in relation to the screen display, you will be able to mark a particular fish. The depth finder on the transducer helps in calculating the depth below. The depth is useful in knowing the kind of fish to expect at different water levels. The depth finders on the top left corner of the monitor show temperature readings of the water and thus giving you an idea of the type of fish available.
