Admission and English Proficiency Tests for Education Abroad

As Education Abroad is becoming more popular in recent times, Universities and Colleges abroad are getting an overflow of students opting for a wide variety courses. From Engineering to Science and Social Sciences to Hospitality. There are a wide array of courses that students can choose from. To help universities choose eligible and prepared students for admission, there are a certain tests that a student has to appear for and secure a certain score to be eligible for the program or course.
These exams range from academic oriented exams to language proficiency exams.

To Study Abroad, The Academic admission tests are designed to test the knowledge and educational qualification of the candidate and some are designed to pertain to a specific program. On the other hand, the English Proficiency tests are designed to test the language skills of the candidate and the command over the language.

GMAT:
The GMAT or Graduate Management Admission Test is an admission test that is compulsory for candidates who seek admission to Graduate Management programs at Management education institutions and schools globally. The GMAT has specific sections that measure General Verbal, Quantitative and Analytical writing skills that are associated with academic success in the core courses of Graduate Management programs. In India, The GMAT is conducted every month. An acceptable score for GMAT is 650+/800.

GRE:
The GRE or Graduate Record Examination is a renowned admission test that candidates are required to give for admission to graduate programs mainly in Engineering and Science at universities in the USA. The GRE is designed to as a means to help graduate schools assess the qualifications of applicants for advanced study in technical fields. GRE scores are used by more than 3,000 graduate programs throughout the world. An acceptable GRE by universities is 320+/340.

SAT:
The SAT or Scholastic Assessment Test is an admission test which is a requirement for students who seek admission to undergraduate programs, mainly in the USA and Singapore. SAT scores are used by more than 4,000 undergraduate programs in the USA and Singapore. The SAT is conducted 4 times a year in India March, May, October and December. The test is scheduled for the first Saturday of these months. An acceptable SAT score is 1350+/1600.

ACT:
The ACT is a curriculum and standards-based educational and career planning tool that assesses a candidate’s academic readiness for college-level education. The ACT consists of four multiple-choice tests mainly English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science. The ACT with writing includes four multiple-choice tests and a writing test. An acceptable score in ACT is 30/36.

IELTS:
IELTS i.e. International English Language Testing System is a standardized English proficiency test that tests 4 main areas of a candidate’s grasp of English in the areas of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The IELTS has two types of modules - Academic and General Training. The Academic Module is required to be given by students planning to study either undergraduate or postgraduate courses. The General Training Module is generally for people who want to pursue vocational studies or plan to immigrate. An acceptable IELTS score is an overall 7/9 with no less than 7 in each band.

TOEFL:
The TOEFL or Test of English as a Foreign Language, is a standardized English proficiency test that assesses a candidate’s English Language skills in the areas of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Candidates desirous of pursuing further studies at the undergraduate or graduate level are required to take the TOEFL to demonstrate their English proficiency. This test is offered around 30-40 times a year. It is accepted by all Institutions in the USA & by some Institutions in UK & Canada. An acceptable TOEFL score is 100/120.

PTE:
The PTE Academic is a computer-based test that assesses the Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing abilities of non-native speakers of English who need to demonstrate their acadhttps://www.edwiseinternational.com/study-overseas-services/PTE.aspxemic English capability. Candidates often require the same to obtain admission at English-speaking universities, higher education institutions or as proof of their language ability for a visa application. PTE Academic is accepted for student visas & immigration in Australia & New Zealand and by universities as well. An acceptable PTE score is 65-70+/90
