Some people say that life starts at 40, and we’d be inclined to agree. At 40, you’ve got stuff figured out. You’re not struggling with your first job or navigating dating with youthful naivety. You probably have a career, know what you want in life and you know how to have fun. While there are certain things you might need to get to grips with as you get older, on the whole, you’ll be moving towards a more positive and productive mindset. If you want to hit refresh at 40 after falling into a rut, here are some simply ways to shake things up.
Conquer a fear
Nothing will make you feel more powerful than getting over a fear that you’ve held onto for most of your life. This can be anything from a fear of the dentist to a fear of dancing in public. Facing your fears is all about giving yourself a safe space to try things. I recently got over my fear of the dentist by simply calling around local lymm dentists and finding one that was sympathetic to my fears.
Refresh your wardrobe
Getting older doesn’t have to mean dressing more frumpy. So when people suggest updating your wardrobe at 40, they don’t mean ditching your style for beige trousers and sensible shoes. That said, your body might not be the same as it was when you were 30, so it’s important to keep updating your wardrobe to be as flattering as possible. Book a free personal stylist appointment at your local department store and see if you can discover a new way of dressing.
Learn a language
Learning languages is proven to help combat dementia and keep your brain active into old age. Not to mention, it will open up the world and allow you to communicate with more people. Learning a new language doesn’t have to be hard, and there are plenty of free options available for anyone hoping to brush up on their language skills. Forget about the horrors of learning French in high school, because this will be nothing like that!
Switch careers
There’s no reason to stay in the same job if you aren’t happy. A lot of people feel that if they have done the same job for long enough, they should keep going out of habit. In reality, this is the worst possible option for you and your employer. Your job should make you feel fulfilled and happy, and it you’re having more bad days than good days, it might be time to make a change.
