I wanted to be a stripper when I grew up…
I was about 7/8 sitting in my mum’s office, reading ‘The Happy Hooker’ and thinking how cool it would be to be a stripper…
Thankfully, I was too wise to say that out loud to anyone or else I would have been beaten, probably…
Yep, you can say I was exposed to sex way too early and I had no other way to direct the energy than to dream of being on display, driving men, women insane with desire by walking up and down naked with maybe a pole included…
That is the way I felt at that point…
I also wanted to be preacher or bible teacher or something along those lines…
I did not yet know that I could sing…
I just knew that I wanted to stand in front of people and stir people up in some way…
Sex or Spirit – Either way could work…
And I wanted to write…
Stories, plays, poems, all kinds of things…
And I wanted to read…
All kinds of books, learn all kinds of things…
I was a glutton for books, books and more books…
Which is also one of the reasons I got exposed to sex so early because being in Nigeria, there was no access to the vast amounts of children’s books that my very active imagination needed…
And my family was dealing with my dad’s severed spinal cord and my desire for more and more books was just not a priority at the time.
My family was torn between admiration for my brain power – I was pretty booksmart in school when I was a lot younger before being sent off to boarding school at 8 and spending my first year at secondary school crying my little eyes out! (I went from being first in every subject to kinda just about okay…)
And they were also petrified that I would end up unmarried because which African man wanted to marry a woman with too much book knowledge and not enough kitchen ability! (No one thought to question if I wanted to marry any man who thought that way!)
I then went on to enjoy music…
To become the school pianist…
To be nicknamed Mozart because of my love for music…
To be the music minister and choir leader at school…
To start a mini revival as I enabled people to step into freedom around God and Spirit…
Yep, it feels good to pick out the main areas of my life but it is an acknowledgement that I have come full circle and that, when you choose to step up and be the Leader you are born to be, you will note that you are doing things that you have wanted to do from childhod but did not think you ever could.
Sex, Spirit, Singing, Reading, Writing, Performing, Speaking – these are all things that I have always wanted to do…
These are things I do now and make money from.
Back in the day, I thought it impossible because well… people told me it was impossible…
I listened to them silly people…
I took many diversions…
I became a pharmacist – Worked my butt into the ground for years to gain a prize I did not want because I thought I had to…
I then did the whole property thing because again, I could not believe it was possible to live life the way I wanted to…
So, I went the way of the ‘norm’ – Do whatever will make you money even if it will kill off your power…
Because as a ‘norm’, you cannot allow yourself to think that it is even slightly possible to do work that you love…
OH NO!
That is impossible or so they say…
And so, if you are subscribed to that limiting way of living life, you get a life that creates some money but in very limited amounts doing work you don’t much like but can put up with…
And you look forward to a life where one day, you get to do what you dream of doing…
Where you get to deliver a powerful message of power and transformation…
ONE DAY!
When you are old and gray and your ex-employer is paying you a pension…
Then maybe you get to live your life…
Just in time to die…
That was almost my path…
And I started to do things that I wanted to do…
Rather than things I had to do…
I started to just show up as ME…
And surprisingly, it is pretty hard to do that because you are trained to be ‘responsible’ and hidden, right?!
And it is not ‘responsible’ to just go about doing whatever you want, right?!
It is considered ‘selfish’ to think you can just do what you want…
To be whoever you want to be…
Your higher power may hate you for it, right?
And send down bolts of lightning and suffering to cut you down to size, right?
(Why you would want to worship a deity that thought that way, is beyond me!)
But, let’s be honest, you are working yourself pretty hard doing work you know you don’t want to do…
Apart from fear…
Fear that you will not be able to pay the bills…
And it is a valid fear, after all, you do have all these ‘responsibilities’!
And I suppose you can let your whole life, your REAL life drift away as you think about all those responsibilities – that is your choice and frankly, I kinda don’t give a hoot about you if you make that choice…
The one who sees the vision and the heart behind the words that I speak…
The one who feels called to look back into their childhood and glean out the strengths and desires that they have carried since then and the one who makes a decision to live from those strengths…
Yep, it will be hard to start with…
To break away from ideas of how things ‘should’ be done and instead to carve out your own path based around things you have always known you want to do…
But it is already hard to maintain this crazy life that you are trying to keep up…
I get it, you are not even sure that you will like the life once you get there…
But you do however, know that this life is not one you like so why the heck not try for a life where you get to do, be, have whatever you want?
Why not become a person who is not so attached to a certain way of being but instead allows yourself to explore different things, to go back to the start, to glean out who you are really created to be and to settle for nothing less than living that life out?!
What I say here, is anathema to the ‘norm’!
They want certainty…
They want everything to line up…
They want me to tell them exactly how and when it will work…
But that is not us!
We are leaders…
We are warriors…
We are done with settling…
We want more…
And we are willing to do what it takes to get more…
We have one life and we intend to live it full out…
There are secrets hidden in our own existence that tell us what our message is about, what our purpose is about…
Those ‘secrets’ have been hidden in plain sight for ever
And now, finally we as leaders are ready to own that role.
To dwell on the past, on our story to pick out what we are here to do…
Because it is there…
Clearly there for us to see…
If we will choose to courageously be the person who now designs a life around those traits…
For me, it is Sex, Spirit, Song, Reading, Writing, Speaking & Performing – that is where the real me lies…
That is where my millions live…
That is where I will have the most impact…
Not being a pharmacist…
Not being a property mogul…
Not even being a mum or wife or daughter…
They are all a part of my story but they can never be the whole of it…
And it takes courage for me to do the things that I was told would never make me money…
And yet, I choose to deliberately design a life doing what I am born to do, knowing that I then open the gates to abundance…
Doing it even if I get no reward because I must…
Doing it because as I live this ‘Because I want to’ lifestyle, I have the most impact on the people around me…
And as you step up and live that lifestyle too, you will also have more of an impact on the ones you are called to serve.
It may make no sense to the ‘norms’ around you but if it did, I would be worried!
We are not ‘norms’ and THEY DO NOT GET US!
You and I want it all and have the courage to take it!
We will glean the truth of who we are from our story and we will let it lead us to abundance…
To making and impacting millions…
We are done with settling…
We now choose to have it all!
