The fact is, family and friends will probably make the worst business partners. Family and friends often think that you are suppose to accept anything they say, or do. And, because of it, there are many emotions involved in family and friends relationships. Business partnership should be taken seriously and without putting your emotions into it. Talking about money problems, or other business matters, becomes very difficult when you have emotional ties to your partners. When choosing business partners, your business matters should not overflow into your personal life.

At the end of the day, if you do not agree with the decision your partner made, you do not want it to overflow outside the office environment. You want to be in a position where you can walk away from the person and the bad decision. You cannot do that if the person is your family, or a friend. You may have a friend whom you respect in all areas, but he is not trustworthy. How can you expect to be in a successful business partnership with a person who is not trustworthy? It will not work, and he will soon bring you down. Each business partner is expected to bring something to the table in the form of time, money, or resources.

Before you decide to bring on partners, ask yourself these questions:

Will this business survive without partners?
Will my ego prevent me from giving control and a share of the profits?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you may want to reconsider a business partnership.
