You have invested thousands of dollars in programs and trainings. You are working your butt off on your business day in and day out. You follow the instructions to a T. You do everything by the book. Sometimes you make a few sales, get a few clients… sometimes you don’t. There seems to be no rhyme or reason.

You can’t figure out why, and it is frustrating the hell out of you because society has trained us to operate on the binary system of “do something –> see outcome.”

So you keep pushing through – gather MORE information, implement MORE tactics, spend MORE time and money on MORE trainings and tools that promise the magic bullet.

It’s not just about the money – you get a few clients here and there and you are doing ok. But the emotional roller coaster and the feast and famine cycle make this business thing no longer fun, motivating or inspiring.

You feel like you are chasing your tail on the hamster wheel. You are tired of the busywork and ready to do what really matters to YOU. But HOW? You have tried everything under the sun!

Q: How do I stop chasing my tail on the hamster wheel?
A: JUST STOP!

You have the CHOICE to hop off. You have the freedom to say “no mas!” You have the power to pull the plug.

Strip down, back to basics. Keep It Simple Sunshine.

Question is – are you WILLING to?

You KNOW you need that space to reset and refocus. You KNOW the answer is not going to come from another $297 training. You KNOW you need to make room for clarity to come through.

But your fear- and lack-based monkey mind keeps driving you down the rabbit hole of busywork.

The monkey mind is operating on past experience. If the do-do-do has been your M.O. and that’s what you know to do – and were rewarded for – you will be driven to take the default action.

Schools train us to do-do-do. Jobs measure our worth by how much we cough up. The idea of being “productive” for most is about checking stuff off a list. We have become trained monkeys pulling levers without understanding what the machine is doing.

The hamster wheel may be exhausting, but in a (weird) way, it’s “safe” from a psychological perspective. You know the drill, and it’s easy on the mind.

Getting off the hamster wheel and stopping the busywork can be scary.

Have you been measuring how much you are “worth” and how “good” you are by how much you produce? If so, stopping the “production” and being still can be the hardest thing because you stop feeding the “validation crack” to your monkey mind.

Have you been hiding behind “templates, blueprints and checklist” so when it doesn’t work you have something to “blame”? If so, breaking out of the mold to do what truly matters can trigger the fear of being not good enough or being criticized (by others and worse, by yourself.)
Are you afraid of the silence? When you cut the cord, when you throw yourself down the void… the unknown, the free falling, and the uncertainty can trigger some primal fears and insecurity.

How to Detox from Busywork

When you get off the hamster wheel and stop “doing” so you can make room to really listen to what YOU already KNOW, it can feel like withdrawal. Every time I do that I get symptoms of allergies – for real.
Stop doing the busywork doesn’t mean you stop progressing. It’s progress that doesn’t come in the form of checking stuff off the list and going through the motion. You may have to redefine “progress” to fully embrace the value of this process.

To permanently get off the hamster wheel, you need to get clear on what YOU are about.

Step up and own your big vision.

Figure out what makes YOU tick – who do you want to work with? What really puts you in the flow? And, how you delivering it so there is not a single iota of dragging-your-feet-ness?

What do aligned actions look like for YOU?

What fears do you have to overcome so you don’t get swayed by bright shiny objects?

The process boils down to:
Clarity –> Discernment –> Aligned Action
Rinse and repeat.
