Born and raised in Del Rio, Texas, Barrera has practiced law for seven years. Barrera earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in 2009, and previously earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Texas in 1994. Barrera’s focused areas of practice include medical malpractice; oilfield and natural gas industry accidents; motor vehicle accidents; litigation; family law; immigration; DUI/DWAI; personal injury; wrongful death; and criminal law. Memberships include College of the State Bar of Texas (2013 to present), American Association for Justice (2011 to present), Texas Trial Lawyers Association (2010 to present), Permian Basin Trial Lawyers Association (2010 to present), and American Bar Association (2009 to present). He has written a scholarly article for the AAJ Minority Caucus Newsletter, and has served as a speaker at the Mexican American Bar Association of Texas. Barrera actively gives back to the community through active civic participation in Rotary International, the Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Hispanic National Bar Association. Barrera is an attorney and partner at the Buckingham Barrera Law Firm, which represents clients in Texas and New Mexico.
