My expertise in depression comes from being a mental health counselor and my own experiences. Along the way I have learned much about the causes and effects of depression and the array of treatments--both conventional and non-conventional--that are effective in healing this disorder. A primary goal in my life is to help others navigate the way from darkness into light.
Along with a Masters degree in counseling I also have a Masters degree in religious studies. Spirituality is an integral part of my life and an indespensible element along the healing path. I am well-versed in spiritual practices such as prayer and meditation and it is my sincere hope that I can help others realize their spiritual core--their divine essence--whether they suffer from depression or not.
I have also worked in the natural health industry and have learned much about the role that nutrition, exercise, and dietary supplements play in promoting physical and mental health.
You could aptly describe me as a seeker, a crtitical thinker, and one who is fascinated by the mysteries of life and the ultimate questions about who we are and why we are here. I have learned much in forty-six years and I am sure I will learn much more. It seems that are always more questions than answers, but I am sure of this--we are here to learn, to love, and to make our little corner of the world a better place for our fellow humanity and the whole of creation that we share.
Socrates wrote, "The unexamined life is not worth living." Life is a gift, and in order to live it fully and fulfill our God-given potential, we must examine our lives and the way our thoughts and emotions our serving us--for better or worse. We must seek freedom from ill-serving and repeated patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that block our full humanity.
Being the master of your mind, instead of your mind mastering you, is summed up beautifully by concentration camp survivor Viktor Frankl. In his book, Man's Search for Meaning, he writes:
"Everything can be taken from a man but one thing; the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way."
