Patty McWilliams is a Graduate of the Governors State University Masters in Art program. Her 2008-2009 series of faces, consisting of 16 very large canvas paintings of expressive portraiture, reflect her desire to make a connection between the human experience with her love of art.
In her undergraduate work Patty studied Psychology and Fine Art concentrating in figure sculpture. McWilliams also developed a popular drawing technique on wood grain, depicting her figurative work, which she continues to create and exhibit.
In concert with her interest in the health, spirit, and the human experience, Patty completed an apprenticeship program in Shamanic studies in 2007, Along with her continued practice in Hatha and Kundalini Yoga since 2001. Both which inspire her art-work and teaching. Patty combines the freedom of Art and her holistic health training to assist her in creating experiences for adults and children to embrace their divine creativity and to help in releasing what holds them back from realizing true health.
In addition to private and semi-private instruction, Patty offers group instruction and workshops in areas such as Shamanic Studies, Prayer Beading, and Intuitive Painting. In recent years Patty has created a Chakra Workshop, based on her practice in Kundalini Yoga, combined with visual art. Patty also engages in mural work throughout the surrounding communities.
As a member of Union Street Gallery, Patty offers these group workshops as well as continue her private and semi-private teaching venues. Patty graduated with her Masters degree at GSU in August 2009 with the completion of her thesis exhibition, faces. Her work has realized several awards, including that of national recognition, and continues to be shown throughout the suburbs and in the city of Chicago.
