Niamo Nancy Muid-Davis has been a powerful, energetic force all of her life. She saw healing colors and movement and influenced situations before she could articulate to her family what she was experiencing. She translated her day-dreaming and visions into a bachelor's in both Art and Communications from Chapman University and a Master's in City Planning from Pratt Institute.
She was the youngest editor at Essence magazine fresh out of college. Indeed, while a senior in high schoolshe held the first Essence magazine depicting beautiful African American womenin her hands, bedazzled. She declared to herself, "I could work for them." She never thought about it again but studied painting instead. Four years later she got her dream job. (All types of cultural magazines and publishing projects now dot her resume.)
She traveled the world via the Semester at Sea program in 1972, which enhanced her study of yoga, meditation and Sufism. Fast forward to Submission to God (Islam) in 1977, due to reading the Holy Quran. She felt only a creator of the heavens and earth could have sent it. Later Niamo became an advocate for Islamic spirituality, co-writing a newspaper column in the 1980s and a book in the late 1990s. A social justice activist, Niamo provides sermons for her religious community and is among the vanguard of women doing so in the Islamic world. Now a reiki III practitioner, she has served as a leadership facilitator and nonprofit board member, produced fairs, exhibits and concerts, developed funded programs and giving vehicles, and helped launch the African Medicine Women movement.
The HealMobile concept came to Niamo in the final days of the Ramadaan fast of 2007. This Islamic rite helps one to cleanse mind, body and spirit while remembering that others need and deserve help. The HealMobile mission is therefore one of service to those who need healing and those who can provide it; and its purpose is to raise village awareness of holistic healing and spiritual culture, making the "we" more present than "I."
Besides the virtual marketplace of holistic ideas provided by The HealMobile, the main products offered are reiki therapy, Young Living Essential Oils, Raindrop Technique, the e-book, The Spiritual Warrior;s Guide to Reiki Medicine and the softcover book, The Spiriual Warrior's Guide to Islam.
We are really all African from God. Visit www.NiamoMuid.com and click on Pomes+ then play the song above the "African from God" poem (below my picture). Until the oldest human being is located in another part of the globe, the most ancient human among us is African, and this is something we can all embrace proudly. The degree to which we cannot easily embrace our Africanness is the exact degree to which there is a bit more self-growth for us to accomplish, especially in this Obama era.
That President Blessing's (barack means blessing) father came from an area of East Africa that spoke KiSwahili, which is likely related to the language of the descendants of Lucy and the oldest man found in Africa, can be viewed as significant. Similarly, the African American holiday Kwanzaa is drawn from Swahili people. Is it coincidence that these East African themes permeate the U.S. cultural landscape in the 21st century? Or that things Egyptian stem from these same sources? We know nothing is ever coincidence, but always divine coincide-dance. We are really all African from God. Everything truly generates from the dark first, then there's a spark. Without wisdom, there is no light. Without the void, there is no Being. Here's to our healing....
I am present to the birth of The HealMobile, a movement to bring the holistic health movement closer to the people most in need of it, to restore village to our communities in a way that is not here now. I am currently working on a business plan/proposal to being the concept to life. I see versions of it, glimmers of it, in the news and on the web almost wherever I look. It is time that allopathic and integrative medical approaches come even closer to the "people's pharmacy" perspective, and involve all creative healing approaches, such as the arts, that have helped the poorer among us to survive and thrive.
If you know metaphysicians and practitioners who are oriented towards helping people with the most needs to gain a better appreciation of their self-care and holistic health options, please refer them to me.
I can show you how reiki/energy work, the "missing link" of essential oils, leadership facilitation and spiritual counseling can together help relieve the thorniest personal, family and group challenges--body, mind/heart and spirit. I can also provide guidance in helping peole to manage their increasing responsibility for their health while they are under a doctor's care, so that the holistic and allopathic work together seamlessly.
