At 70 and semi-retired, I currently invite healthy high performers--temporarily stuck-- into a space of reflection for what it is they are meant to do, at this time in their lives, on this planet. I delightedly nudge them into taking action on their own emerging clarity.
New England born and bred, I have done what I loved most of my life, as a Peace Corps Volunteer, public school teacher, National Park Manager, self-employed organizational consultant and management trainer, and executive coach. My specialty has always been supporting people at any age to surface their own dreams and desires, take them seriously, and develop a clarity of intention which propels a joyful path and prosperous through life.
My life has been one of experimenting and learning throughout. My formal education includes Oberlin College, BA and Springfield College, MEd. My books are expressions of my journeys and my legacy: Musing Along the Way is a book of poetry prompted by a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis and was published in 2002. Why Not Do What You Love? An invitation to calling and contribution in a world hungry for your gifts, published in 2010, is a gentle prompt for life reflection. Part memoir, part guide, part how-to, this resource for all ages includes real life examples of those who have stepped into their calling and suggests how others can do the same.
I believe that everyone is able to do more of what they love in life. I've come to see that the process involves four tasks.
1. Identify passions, talents, dreams, and gifts.
2. Illuminate and challenge the fears and beliefs that block taking action.
3. Start small and start somewhere. Experiments are the golden way.
4. Figure out how to "monetize" what one desires to do in the world.
I am particularly interested in how we might be orienting young people for a world of work which may not be "job based". Also how we orient companies to be "employers of choice" for those who increasingly want to do work that matters, in an environment of respect.
