Several years ago, I changed the way I paid my mortgage. I started using my house to pay for my house. What a concept!
I told my banker about it. She said, "This is brilliant!"
I explained it carefully to my pal John. He was skeptical. But a few weeks later he came over to my house and said, "Lin, this is brilliant! We have to tell people."
Being a full-time Internet marketer for half a dozen years, John also said, "We have a product. We have to get this to people."
I was using the Internet, too, coaching people looking for home-based businesses on how to find a good one and build it. I also coached people who already had businesses, helping them with marketing, lead acquisition, sales skills, email marketing and telephone skills. One of my favorite concepts to teach was how to get your business tools to pay for themselves through referral fees. For example, my tollfree number is almost free to me, because I've referred a couple of people to the same company. The commission on their usage offsets most of mine. And they can refer people and get theirs free. Everyone wins.
Not too different from using your house to pay for your house, is it?
I told John if he would build a website, I would write a manual. I had had a writing, editing and graphic design business in Los Angeles for 12 years. My client work was about 50-50 marketing materials and training manuals. I was active in the local chapter of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). And I taught classes at Learning Tree University as well as for the City of Los Angeles and the Medical Center. I knew a lot about training--making something complex very simple. Taking people step by step from beginner to mastery. I love to write and I love to teach.
In May of 2006, John and I published Let Your Mortgage Make You Rich! Besides being a writer and educator, over a prior two-year period I had cancelled nearly $70,000 mortgage interest at a cost of $20,208 ($208 of it was HELOC interest).

Talking with hundreds of homebuyers excited about beating the banks at their own game has fueled my passion for helping people get out of debt--all debt that is not income-producing debt.

Together our team has helped people save well over a billion dollars!
It is thrilling to see people pay off a 30-year loan and a pile of credit card debt in as few as four years, or even as many as 14, depending upon the amount of debt and investment properties they are paying off. (Many of our clients are real estate investors.)
I've learned more about mortgages and interest than I ever thought I would. Writers are notoriously bad with numbers, but I always say, "I seem to do fine when numbers have a dollar sign!" I didn't anticipate becoming a financial coach, but it's fun seeing the excitement people have when they see the light at the end of the tunnel - and it isn't a train coming toward them. It's their debt freedom day! I love what I do!
