Leslie Rees has devoted the last 20 years to inventing designing and producing innovative products for the medical market. Many of the products have been designed to be multifunctional providing a number of benefits to patients and carers. Together with his wife Marji he founded Mediwrap Ltd and designed and developed the Mediwrap range of products including the Mediwrap High Protection Blanket which is used throughout the UK National Health Service as well as being the standard issue medical blanket for the armed forces this product along with others designed by Leslie is used by most air search & rescue Helicopters.
In 2005 Leslie became concerned about one of his Grandaughters who was diagnosed with Raynaud’s disease as she had been told there was no cure and that to relieve the cold and pain in her hands she should wear gloves. The research proved that there are millions of people who suffer from cold and painful hands this may be brought about by a variety of medical conditions though the phenomenon of cold hands and feet is known as Raynaud’s after its discoverer A.G. Maurice Raynaud French Physician.
Leslie set about further researching the subject and decided he could produce a lightweight almost imperceptible product that could insulate the area around the wrist where the blood vessels lie close the skins surface and at the same time reflect the body’s own heat back to that area this would have the effect of promoting a better flow of blood into the hands and fingers.
Prototypes were trialled and eventually a finshed product was produced called HeatBands™ the great thing about the product is that it contains no drugs, no chemicals and requires no activation or active input, it better utilises the body’s own heat thus providing a natural remedy. A company called HeatBands Ltd was set up to sell the product world-wide via the Internet at www.heatbands.com approvals have been gained from the Raynaud’s Association and The Scleroderma foundation and the company continues to flurish. Leslie and Marji have now sold the business and are moving into new territory.
