what is fathom dance?
fathom dance is an opportunity to move to the beat of your own passionate heart and
be in rhythm with a compassionate community. kara masters holds the
space for this to happen and, as dj seven, she spins soul, world,
sacred, funk, trance, swing, r and b, latin and more…whether you've
been dancing around your living room, in secret dreams or on stages,
you're welcome here. you'll be on the dance floor with friends from
eighteen to eighty-something, from all vocations, creeds and cultures.
in bare feet and comfy clothes, we all dive into the ocean of dance,
first settling in its still depths then being taken by its currents,
crests and waves till finally floating.
originally founded in 1998 as dancing to the edges, this prayer-play-practice has been called in sync, pulse and a-maze,
moving from studios in venice, santa barbara, santa monica and topanga
to retreat centers in zaca lake, ojai and cusco, peru and accompanied
by such accomplished musicians as andrew werderitsch, suzanne teng and
mystic journey, jamie papish of the yuval ron ensemble, emile hassan
dyer, christopher pellani and fred samia. on valentine's in 2007, the
journey landed in fathom dance. this year, in concert with didjeridu-ings, we're creating barefoot boogie for families, and in summer 2009, we're celebrating fathom dance in retreat at the ojai foundation.
what is fathoming?
it's sound…it's the span of outstretched arms…it's understanding the
truth…it's penetrating and encompassing…and that's just what the
dictionary says…when we're on the dance floor, we're listening to the
language of silence in our spirit, music in the space and dance in our
heart… we're moving into the deepest serenity of self and out to the
fullest embrace of everyone…
what is dancing?
it's moving…in rhythm…from emotion…with grace…and, whether everything's
looking up or it looks like everything's going down, we can dance - get
down, get funky, get real…as much as it makes for a good sweat, dancing
is ultimately a way of experiencing that only love is real…
