My spiritual journey really began in earnest when my mother died when I was 13 years old. We were in a car accident together and the brush with death completely realigned my priorities and opened me up to a vast new dimension in myself that I had never payed much attention to before. For 3 months a huge stillness was underneath all of my experiences. The fears and self consciousness of teenage life (or any segment of life!) were completely erased and the identity of Thomas Ward Howell (my name at the time) was not as pronounced. My life was lived in the present and though the pain and grief I experienced was great there was a joy in being connected to that expansive place inside me. The experience faded (8th grade will have that effect on anyone!) as I attempted to fit in again, but it left me hungry for more. A year later I walked into a metaphysical bookstore with my sister and I could have moved in (it was called Heart n Soul, thank you Jason if you ever happen to stumble upon this posting). I began meditating consistently when I was 17 and have not stopped since. In 2001 I was introduced to the prace of the Ishayas' Ascension by Josiah Barber (now Darshan, another big thank you) and shortly thereafter I learned Ascension in January 2002. Ascension was so simple and so effective that I decided to do it full time and 3 months later I moved out to the west coast of the United States and did just that! The rest has been history. I have had the double pleasure of not only practicing these wonderful technques, but also teaching them to others.
I have a wonderful browser toolbar that can be uploaded at http://theishayatradition.OurToolbar.com. It has a link to my consciousness blog, a number of other cool features, and most importantly it is a fundraiser (searches monetized by google) for my dream of building a monestary.
