I love laughing and making people laugh. Laughing keeps you young. The average person laughs 14 times a day. Are you average?
I've been working in Churches for the past 28 years as their Director of Music or Director of Worship. One of my ministry areas was Music Outreach where I would go into a Department of Correction's facility and present a 90 minute program to the inmates. The goal was to get them laughing, lift them up, help them refocus and strive to be happy, no matter what their current situation was. This program spread. I started giving versions of this program for various groups: Sunday School Classes, Teacher's Groups, Men's Retreats, Church-Wide Retreats and High School Reunions.
People responded equally, no matter what group they were in. Children at 5-years old would laugh just as hard as a 70 year-old. The niche was born.
I had the desire to construct a web site that would allow anyone to do what I do, using the material I use. www.you-can-be-funny.com was born. The secret to the program I give is to feed the audience's eyes and ears at the same time. Leading with a few well-chosen words over the following visual works like a charm. People are drawn into this combination, quickly loosening-up and laughing.
Not everyone was born a great joke or story teller. No problem; structuring your program this way allows anyone to present the material, create laughs and be funny. I'm totally conviced anyone can be funny with the right stuff.
Life is very short and hard for many of us. Being happy can take effort. "Laughter doeth good as a medicine". If you'll laugh a bit, it gets easier to be happy.
