Benjamin Carrettin earned his undergraduate from the University of St Thomas and attended Texas Southern University under a full scholarship for his Masters in Clinical Psychology. He is a fully and independently Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas. He is nationally board certified by the NBCC. He is also a Certified Anger Resolution Therapist (CART) and has received intensive training in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISM). Benjamin has been working in the mental health field since 1992 and in the corporate world prior to this. He has worked in a variety of settings including private practice, private and grant-funded intensive out-patient programs, partial hospitalization programs and full in-patient hospitalization. He has worked with children, adolescents, and adults.
Outside of the more traditional roles of an expert in behavioral health, Benjamin also provides strategic consultations for businesses and leaders including areas of Leadership Presentation Acumen, Workplace Transitions (mergers, downsizing, etc), New Management Transitions, Work/Life Balance for Executives, Social Intelligence for Leadership and assisting counsel in Voir Dire selections.
In addition to working with businesses and behavioral science, Benjamin has also worked in behavioral managed care; both in a clinical capacity and as a Federal Network Manager as well as State Network Manager for Texas . In this role, one of his duties included investigating concerns regarding the quality of service, adherence to best practice guidelines, as well as both business and ethical/clinical issues of contracted mental health clinicians. To this end, Benjamin is keenly aware of current best practices in the field of counseling as well as up-to-date, proven techniques to increase successful outcomes in counseling clients.
Benjamin is committed to helping others get the very most out of their lives. Ben uses frequently uses a blend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (M-CBT), Brief Therapy and Solution-Focused approaches. He is known for being professional, down-to-earth and pragmatic, while being vigilant in preserving his clients' privacy and dignity. He also works with Professionals in Recovery (addiction), First Responder Stress (Peace Officers, Fire Department and ER Nurses), Critical Incident Stress Management (Oil and Gas), Heart Disease and Cancer Survivors as well as with Death/Dying transitions.
Benjamin has also been active in the community as a volunteer for many years. He’s worked the ranches at Heifer Project International, been a Big Brother volunteer, been an active supporter of NAMI; National Association for the Mentally Ill, built playgrounds with United Way’s “Days of Caring”, served seniors at the Bajo el Mismo Techo Conference and been a rider and fund-raiser for Tour de Cure for Diabetes. For several years he has served on a local private school board, as a founding member of a local professional network and provided several targeted, no cost workshops for the public seeking to dismiss the stigma often associated with mental illness.
