Over the years Alex Dukhovny has had many interesting careers which included IT, marketing, sales, telecommunications, medical, real estate, and law related fields. In 2003 he joined California Academy of Mediation Professionals as a Statistical/Financial Analytical Administrator. The California Academy of Mediation Professionals ("CAMP") is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing quality mediation services as an effective and efficient alternative to formal court proceedings for the resolution of disputes. CAMP was established in May of 1995 by Jeffrey Krivis and received substantial grant funding under the Los Angeles County Dispute Resolution Program Act.
Few months later, with the suggestion of his employer and personal friend, Cynthia Greer who has been an Associate Dean at the Pepperdine University School of Law for 17 years, Alex completed the mediation training and never looked back.
Over the past years, Alex has mediated hundreds of small claims, limited and unlimited jurisdiction cases with great results. Mr. Dukhovny created a wonderful reputation in the Lancaster Small Claims Court and many other Los Angeles Courthouses throughout the LA County.
In 2006 Alex received a BA degree in Business and Human Relations. Mr Dukhovny has completed several respected mediation training courses, among which, is the Pepperdine's Mediating the Litigated Case and American Mediation's course. As well as being fluently proficient in Russian, Mr. Dukhovny also holds a degree in Internet, Multimedia and WWW from the CompuCollege of Los Angeles. Alex has always been interested in improving his skills and knowledge and will continue to do so every chance he gets.
We all trust doctors in white coats; we all want to trust lawyers in expensive suits. Trust yourself not to run away from the problems you've gotten your selves into and seek a new medium for resolution. ADR stands for Alternative Dispute Resolution, for years this abbreviation should have been renamed to Appropriate Dispute Resolution. Make the appropriate decision and instead of demolishing the bridge of communication and taking your problem through a lengthy and costly process of litigation; save the bridge and rebuilt with a quick, easy and affordable path of mediation.
Mediation is a casual process in which a neutral party to the conflict helps bring two opposing sides together via a clear channel of communication. I believe that this clear channel of communication must be supported by a professional and, for the lack of a better word, elegant approach while treating every case differently. Every person which uses mediation is an individual in every way. Each has a distinctive character, an individual need, a separate concern, approach and temper. Therefore each case must be treated like no other.
It is my, and in my opinion every mediator's duty, to be able to analyze these individual needs quickly and accurately in the beginning, if not prior to each and every mediation. It is because of this initial assessment and the ability to gather necessary information from both parties in a timely fashion without making anyone feel rushed I am able to use the collaboration of both, the plaintiff and defense, to come to a mutually acceptable agreement 97 percent of the time.
How do you prevent a person from allowing other to make the biggest mistakes of their life for them? This question is not a typo; many people, every day make this mistake. In a dispute surrounding only them selves and another party they will involve a biased person, such as attorney to help them settle the argument. However, as soon as you involve an attorney, who usually works of commission, the negotiation takes a violent turn, you are no longer in control. Gain back the control by utilizing a non-biased person who will help you communicate throughout your argument better and make the decisions your self. Do not end an argument with, "I'll see you in court!" Rather end it with, "Let's mediate and remain friends."
