The list of conditions where hypnotherapy can be beneficial is almost limitless - wherever our emotions and state of mind (past & present) exert influences on our beliefs, state of well-being and physical effects.
The subconscious effect of the mind is continuous, ranging from a fear raising our heart beat to skin eruptions arising from stress. Integration of body and mind is the way we have evolved for survival, yet modern lifestyles test this biology to the limit.
INTEGRATIVE HYPNOTHERAPY
Integrative Hypnotherapy is a eclectic form of hypnotherapy which addresses stress and 'reprogrammes' established habits created by our subconscious responses. Hypnotherapy is well placed to address psychosomatic (mind-body) conditions
Of course, the mind is complex, infinitely more complex than any computer. It is logical, emotional and volatile. For example, we are aware of lapses in concentration when we drift into an AUTOMATIC state of awareness. Much of our life is lived on this automatic 'day-dreaming' state - it's easy and economical on effort.
In contrast, concentration is focused attention (directive thinking) requiring conscious effort. Conversely an automatic subconscious state of mind is 'free-flowing' - requiring little effort. For example, learning to play a musical instument requires considerable initial effort. However, with increased practice this becomes automatic, as the technique is 'programmed' or memorised by the subconscious.
Beneath the subconscious are the autonomic functions, such as breathing, heart beat control, hormonal secretions, digestion, and their links with the emotions ('butterflies in the tummy' for example) which can be shaped by early life experiences. Nonetheless, the mind and body seek to attain balance.
Both the subconscious and autonomic systems respond physically & emotionally to present AND previously significant events. These form the basis of our habits, beliefs and values and together with our inherited characteristics & life experiences integrate into our personality - influencing our perception of OUR world. Our reality is our PERCEIVED experience.
When all elements of our functional mind are working in harmony then the result is confidence, self-esteem and inner-belief. Disharmony creates physical and emotional responses. Hypnotherapy is designed to restore harmony in subconscious processes.
It is estimated that we spend up to 80% of our waking hours subconsciously 'thinking', automatically responding to life events. Some people are simply programmed to repeat past mistakes. Other individuals self-sabotage their success and happiness because they feel they don't deserve life's rewards. Their limited beliefs are habitual, over-protective and out-dated, much like dated computer programmes.
In Hypnotherapy we address the cause and the associated stress. This differs from the medical model, where typically it is the symptoms that are addressed.
STRESS MANAGEMENT
Stress is widespread in our society - particularly at times of social change and uncertainty. Hypnotherapy strengthens our capability to cope with accumulated stresses and provides a barrier to future stress.
Many of the conditions listed above and below have one thing in common - they are broadly psychosomatic - have a 'mind component'. These conditions have been difficult for General Medical Practitioners (GP's) to permanently resolve - they just haven't got the time in a typical 15 minute appointment. Standard medical treatments tend to be symptom suppression with medication, accepting possible adverse 'side effects'.
The following are conditions where Integrative Hypnotherapy and Stress Management can frequently be beneficial. Many of these problems are linked to STRESS, ANXIETY and to LIMITING PERSONAL BELIEFS. Here the mind acting on the body, and the body on the mind - leading in time to adverse symptoms (or actions), often automatic in their progression. In other words, the person becomes locked into repeated subconsciously driven behaviour. This is not due to any lack of intelligence.
The following are conditions that can respond well to hypnotherapy interventions:

Change Needn't Be Difficult...Hypnosis forms the bridge between the conscious mind and the subconscious. Hypno-therapy then reprogrammes the influential subconscious for beneficial changes.

If requested, we provide an informal and free 30 minutes initial consultative screening (except for smoking cessation). This is to allow Alan Gray to assess whether you are suitable for therapy AND to give you a appreciation of the treatment process. Immediately following this time you have the option of a hypnotherapy session (or booking a later appointment) and we normally allow for this within our schedule.
All sessions are £60 (except Smoking Cessation) and are one hour, or sometimes slightly longer. The Stop Smoking Hypnosis Session is £120, inclusive of follow-up, where this is needed. This session includes a unique stress reduction element and is slightly longer than other sessions. The investment is how much the average smoker spends on cigarettes in just 3 weeks.
Please note we don't accept cheques, debit or credit cards.
Missed appointments: Without extenuating circumstances, the full session fee will be charged in the event of a cancelled or missed appointment unless 24 hour notice is given.
Close-by free parking at Sainsbury's supermarket (2.5 hours), or a maximum of 3 hours free on some local streets.
The Scarborough Hypnotherapy building is part of a Complementary Medical Centre. You can enter this building in complete privacy (there is no reception), the Practice is situated on the first floor. Normally, Alan Gray will see you immediately.
