Women's Autumn Fashion Must-Haves

With autumn fast approaching, it's high time to check whether your wardrobe might need a seasonal refresh. Find out what pieces it would be wise to invest in.

Tops

The key to keeping warm in the unpredictable autumn months is layering. Build your way up from a simple camisole to a jumper or cardigan that is also easy to remove if you get too warm.

Tops can be simple T-shirts or blouses in natural fabrics like cotton and linen. Synthetics aren't the best for layering. Every woman should have a few fitted T-shirts in block colors, as well as a few oversized tees to mix and match with skirts, leggings, or trousers.

In terms of knitwear, buy jumpers and cardigans in cashmere or merino wool for both the comfort and warmth factor. Good quality fabric will last you for many years to come, and these are essentials that will never go out of style.

Bottoms

So many women make the mistake of associating autumn with trousers and forget about their pretty skirts until spring. But there's no reason not to wear them if teamed with the right garments. Invest in either thick tights or leggings in simple block colors that won't clash with your skirt. To avoid the Marilyn Monroe skirt effect, wear tailored skirts, pencil skirts, or other fitted shapes. Float materials don't mix well with the autumn's winds and rain. The same goes for dresses.

If you prefer trousers, avoid denim as it can get very unpleasant to wear if wet from the rain. It clings to your body and can take a long time to dry. Instead, opt for a pair of chinos, or a fashion-forward pair of leather trousers.

Footwear

Autumn footwear aims to keep your feet dry in case of sudden showers or storms so don't think a pair of fabric ballet pumps will do the trick.

Invest in a sturdy pair of leather boots, and treat the leather with a waterproof spray. Alternatively, wear a pair of thick trainers or well boots on your way to work, and change into a pair of flats or heels at work.

Outerwear

Your jacket is the item you'll wear the most during autumn so make sure you like it, that it matches your wardrobe, and, most importantly, is a comfortable fit and keeps you dry and warm.

Women’s leather jackets channel cool and can be worn both for work and casual occasions. Impregnate the leather with a special waterproof spray or liquid.

Another favorite style that never seems to go out of fashion is the trench coat. The classic color is beige, but nowadays you can snap one up in pretty much any color of the rainbow.
