Why students despise writing their college term papers
Written by David Simons
It has been noticed and observed that many students dislike the idea of writing their college term papers. There may be many reasons for that but the most persistent and commonly present reason is the issue of short deadlines. Although, term papers are a very beneficial activity for a college student, but still many students despise writing their assignments for a variable number of reasons.
Writing a term paper is not an effortless chore. It requires practice, skill, large collection of vocabulary, a very comprehensive and engaging way of putting your ideas in front of the reader and a lot of time to research. It also needs brainstorming, a lot of thinking and the ability to put your arguments in a very systematic and organized fashion. Something many students are unable to do. And even after writing spending hours researching, writing a paper and editing it, many students get low grades and a lot of comments in their term papers, causing more students to hate writing their papers.
The term paper requires to be formatted in a very formal and proper manner. Citation styles are elected by the teacher and students have to comply on that. Many students fail to fulfill that requirement as every citation style has its own formatting. Mistakes and failure to follow the instructions of a particular citation style can cause the term paper to fail miserably and may take the lowest grades possible. This adds to the aggravation and frustration of the student, resulting in further hatred for writing term papers.
Nervousness, anxiety and lack of confidence overtake many students and keep them from start writing their term papers. Lack of skills and the lack of attention in English classes during high school years also contribute in student's apathy in writing term papers. One persistent reason is also the amount of work a student of today has to face. Writing several papers for different courses and using different referencing styles, while also dealing with part-time jobs to cover their finances and also taking care about their social liver. We have to understand the fact that during teen ages, social and personal image is a real important factor. We have all been through that stage and we have to comprehend this fact by walking in their shoes.
A certain category of students think that writing term papers is a waste of time. Why do they think so? Well, for a solid fact that a person's ability in a subject cannot be measured by his capability to write and cite. This holds especially true for engineering, computer science and mathematics students. Their abilities are best reflected in their practical and problem solving tasks. Such category of students thinks that it is pretty useless for them to write as it will be futile and worthless in the future. Not considering their wrong thinking, this is also a contributing reason for many students to be uninterested and unenthusiastic about their term papers.
Conclusion
The above mentioned factors play very important part in making the student despise term papers. Humiliating remarks on papers, bad grading, flawed basics of writing combined with many other factors pose as massive obstructions in the way of writing a college term paper.Article author
