In this day and age it is reported that more people are obsessed about eating fast food. At least one quarter of Americans eat fast food every day.
Why do you think fast food is so popular? Here’s some of the reasons why this is so true: It’s filling: it’s convenient and it’s inexpensive. You can eat fast food by going through a drive thru, picking it up, eat it in your car, take it home or take it back to work.
Even though these are the conditions that exist every day in the world of eating food it is still not a healthy way to eat. Years ago long before fast food restaurants the typical restaurant then was a healthier place to eat.
The menu included meals that were much more wholesome and healthier. I remember going to lunch with my friends at restaurants that offered not only a variety of wholesome meat and fish dishes but also a wide variety of vegetables as well. Now granted all the food offered wasn’t always 100% healthy but a lot healthier than the fast food variety today.
It seems that the typical meal in a fast food restaurant is mostly fried food like the hamburgers and French fries. The new trend in some restaurants does offer broiled or baked meats but most customers seem to want the fried products mostly.
The fast food products are usually high in salt, fats and sugars. This usually means they taste better because what is added makes them more appealing to the customers taste buds. While some restaurants report they are changing this concept somewhat to make their product healthier that is not always true.
The greatest concerns we should have about fast food is the industry is contributing to people becoming more obese. It’s reported that 300,000 people die every year from being overweight or obese; this is second only to smoking. The general public needs to know how much they should be concerned about what they are eating. It’s alright to eat at a fast food place on occasion but please don’t make too many visits.
You should not only be highly concerned about eating in fast food restaurants but eating foods even in any restaurant. No matter where you eat it’s still important to know what kind of food is harmful. Always be cautious of eating fried foods or foods that are likely to contain a lot of fat or sugars. Now everyone can be likely to indulge in this kind of food occasionally but make sure you don’t do it too often.
Another type of food that can fall into the category of fast food is processed food. That’s any food that is boxed, canned or frozen. You could say “Oh! Boy” that limits me quite a bit when I’m trying to prepare a meal. You are right but here is the solution. Instead of buying food like boxed or frozen foods prepare your meals in advance to eating them. Americans to some degree are lazy about preparing meals ahead of time today.
It is such a fast pace world today they don’t want to prepare their family meals in advance. When my wife was working she prepared most family meals in advance. She would set the timer to cook a meal in the oven or on top of the stove. She also would prepare a meal to be cooked in a crock pot beforehand too.
The best news about this type of meals is they are healthy, nutritious and flavorful to eat. In retirement today my wife is still very concerned about preparing healthy meals. Not all meals are totally healthy but most of them are.
The other thing that is important to us is buying food in an organic market as much as we can. The greatest concern here is buying organic meat. The meat produced in an organic matter is free of antibiotics and hormones which is not usually true in your conventional grocery.
