For most people, swimming pool maintenance simply involves identifying a nice residential pool service provider and paying them to do a monthly or weekly pool maintenance service so that the pool stays in good condition. On the other hand are those who believe that swimming pool maintenance is a daily activity requiring a great deal of care so that everything goes on as expected. There are yet others who decide they will do everything on their own but they soon discover it is one of the most challenging chores they ever have to do in their lives.

Correct swimming pool maintenance has a lot to do with being able to get the right balance of pool chemicals especially chlorine and pH levels. If you make it too strong you will have a problem especially that will bleach your swimwear and if it’s too weak you will end up with an uncontrolled growth of bacteria and algae. The pH level should normally be kept at between 7.4 and 7.6 while the chlorine level should always be kept at 1 to 2 parts per million; thankfully there are resting kits that are used for testing pH and chlorine levels.

When it is discovered that the acid or chlorine levels are too low, a little more can be added while there are chemicals that can be introduced in the pool to reduce the pH levels. If the chlorine is found to be too high the option is to simply wait for a day or two before it reduces to the recommended level; is isn’t recommended that you add water to reduce chlorine levels in correct swimming pool maintenance. Adding water has a negative effect because it may become too diluted; acid and chlorine level are usually the main issue when it comes to the business of balancing pool chemicals.

The other aspect of swimming pool maintenance that needs to be observed is what is known in pool lingua as shocking the swimming pool; the practice involves chlorinating the pool to the tune of 10 parts per million. When it is done correctly, it helps the proper working of the day to day chlorinating process. Those high levels of chlorine will oxidize any harmful chemical compounds that are harmful and sets the chlorine free so it can do a better job in sanitization of the pool.

You also want to be careful and watch for cloudy water; this is an important swimming pool maintenance practice because it basically checks on the presence of suspended sentiments in water. Even though there are chemicals available to deal with the presence of sediments, it is important that as a pool owner you go to the bottom of the matter to know exactly what would be causing them. In some cases you could find out that it is a serious matter that could go on deteriorating and eventually damage he pool if it is left untreated.
