In order to be admitted to the PMP exam, you must meet a number of requirements, which will be discussed below. One of the key requirements is at least 35 PDU project management training, and it's a must-have in order to go and pass PMP exam.

What is PDU?
PDU - Professional Development Unit, training accounting unit. You can 'earn' a PDU by attending a project management event hosted by PMI R.E.P. (Registered Education Provider). Study centers receive R.E.P. status in PMI, then register their study programs with PMI, programs are reviewed and listed in the catalog on the PMI website. When registering a training program, it is indicated how many PDUs students will receive when they complete the training program.

PDUs can be obtained for completing a regular classroom course, as well as for virtual training, correspondence courses, playing a computer game on project management, participating in a conference, etc. Typically, there is a different ratio of PDU to the astronomical clock: in the case of face-to-face training, you will most likely receive an 8 PDU certification in an 8-hour course; participation in a conference for 3 days can only 'bring' you 2 or 3 PDUs. It all depends on how the organizers assess the educational value of their event, usually this information is indicated in advertisements for courses, conferences, etc. But in any case, you cannot get more than 1 PDU for 1 hour of attendance at the event.

Thus, in order to be admitted to the exam, you need to have certificates with the total number of PDUs not less than the minimum. The certificate contains the numbers of the events for which you received a PDU, and on the PMI website, you can check whether such events are registered there and whether the number of PDUs on the certificates of the information on the website corresponds.

The minimum number of hours of study is set by the US Project Management Institute (PMI USA) and published in the PMP Handbook - a manual that describes the entire procedure for passing the PMP exam and all the requirements for candidates.

Of course, requirements can change over time. Therefore, it is important to clarify their relevance.

How to receive PDU during training?
If you do not have a PDU, then it is best to attend courses in which the PMBoK standard is understood in detail - it is the knowledge of the standard that will be checked later on the exam. It should be borne in mind that the most expensive PDUs are for full-time training, online training costs less than full-time training and allows you to earn more PDUs. But with online training, you must be prepared for the fact that you will have to master the information on your own in many ways.

How to prepare for the exam?
If you have the opportunity to attend face-to-face courses, there are more than enough of them on the market. Typically, the number of hours collected may not be sufficient to apply for the PMP. Excellent addition to the profile full-time courses will be an online course with using a PMP proxy or a small refresher course. If you do not have the opportunity to attend full-time courses, then you can take online training. A registered training provider can be found on the Institute's website. Also, PMP dumps can be used during the exam preparations.

To pass the exam, you need to know PMBoK well and the specifics of passing the exam: what kind of questions are asked there, what typical dirty tricks are, etc. - that is, you need to get your hands on the exam tickets. Exam preparation courses should provide this skill. But here's the question: is it realistic to give it in 2-3 days of classes, and even taking into account the fact that you can sign up for the exam no earlier than a month after this course? Therefore, PMP exam preparation courses can often be seen only as a way to prepare for the exam just before it, but not as a way for a set of basic PDUs to gain admission to the exam.

PMI updates the PMBoK standard approximately every 3 years, and the PMP exam is updated within a year after publication. Therefore, when preparing for the exam, it is worthwhile to study in advance which version of PMBoK will be used. This can also be done using the already mentioned PMP Handbook.
