A Light Therapy Lamp is a tool that is utilized in light therapy to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder(SAD). The therapy includes exposing the patient to a light that exceeds the indoor light but normally lower than direct sunlight.

SAD on the other hand is a form of depression that mainly arises at a specified period of the year normally in winter or in fall season. The Light Therapy Lamp is used to treat SAD by exposing the patient to a non-natural light that is aimed at mimicking the natural outside light.

A patient is supposed to either work or sit near the light therapy lamp during the light therapy session. The light produced by the lamp is believed to influence the brain chemicals in charge of sleep and mood hence reducing the SAD symptoms.

Other forms of depression like sleep disorders are also treated through this therapy. The best time to use a light therapy lamp is right after waking up from sleep.
