There are a lot of factors that make a person look older than they really are. There are some lifestyle choices that are really hard on the skin of the face, but there are some things that just cannot be avoided. One of these would be the sun, but there are other environmental factors that can prematurely age someone’s skin. Sometimes a person’s genetic makeup also contributes to premature aging of the skin. Very fair skin can age faster than darker skin and sometimes it’s just bad luck that people inherit the genes they do.

Today, if people feel that they want to look younger, there are multiple options available, ranging from very good creams they can purchase at high-end retail outlets to extensive plastic surgery. One popular option that is available and becoming more so all the time is Botox treatments. Botox is a neuromuscular agent that in small quantities, like those used in cosmetic treatment procedures, relaxes the muscles and allows the deep-set wrinkles look less, well, deep-set. Botox treatments are relatively inexpensive and generally do not make drastic changes in the face. They simply allow a patient to look more rested and more youthful, which is the whole point.

Botox is particularly effective for wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes. Various expressions that you routinely make such as frowning, smiling, squinting, grimacing, etc., have been repeated so many times that your face automatically falls into certain patterns of movement and that constant repetition of the same movements are part of what causes wrinkles. As the Botox starts working, these muscles, now more relaxed, do not perform the same motion which then allows those wrinkles not to show quite as much. This can also be a preventative measure to some extent because wrinkles are not formed if those movements are not done repetitiously, and this can be prevented by the Botox treatments.

Once someone has the injections, results of the treatments start to be noticed after about a week, or possibly sooner. And those results last for about three to four months. The nice thing about Botox, as opposed to other options, is that the results stay fairly consistent through the majority of the effective period. Some other cosmetic treatments that are injected start out strong for a short time but then the effect fades rather quickly.

If someone decides to pursue getting Botox injections, they should definitely speak with a licensed physician who has done this treatment many times before. Studies have shown that the results are better when a skilled provider is the one administering the injection rather than just anyone. Since this is something that affects their appearance for several months, people should take the time to make sure it is done well.
