Waste-to-energy is said to be the ultimate solution for waste minimization. Since waste-to-energy technology is not only focusing in diminishing our trash but it also provides us a new product that we use everyday like electricity and fuel. However, the innovations and technologies that were sometimes used become harmful for the environment.

Thus, gasification as a waste-to-energy procedure provides us with energy and at the same time, safety for the environment. This process also lessens our reliance in obtaining raw materials from the natural resources like water and trees. Since waste-to-energy uses our trash to recreate the energy that we need for our daily lives. In the gasification process, it does not only provide us with energy products but also slags which can be used for buildings and cement industries. Even the process for waste-to-energy gives us a waste-free industry since it uses everything in the procedure and there is no additional waste being left behind.

Aside from gasification as a form of waste-to-energy procedure, there are different types as well which includes incineration, pyrolysis, anaerobic digestion, thermal depolymerization, fermentation and mechanical biological treatment. Among these processes, gasification is one of the safest forms of processing waste to energy since it limits the oxygen being used in the process that makes it pollution-free. It is also being used since 1800s in the form of biomass gasification that produces woodgas or gas coming from wood residues in forestry and agricultural sectors of the community. The gas produced was used in town lighting and cooking for homes. As time goes by, advancement in technology continued to pursue and gasification was innovated. There is plasma gasification which is considered as the advanced gasification process that produces rich syngas and can be utilized in a wider range like power plants and cement kiln industries.

Waste-to-energy plants are built in different countries because of the economic gain that it can also provide. Innovations are still being studied for further advancement in processing our waste to ensure that it can be used for a longer time and safe for mankind. It also preserves our natural resources for usage of the future generation. Waste-to-energy is not only providing us with electricity but also gives us hope that there is still light for the next years to come.
