I hope you don’t mind potty talk because in this month’s newsletter I’d like to discuss Urinary Tract Infections; henceforth referred to as UTI’s. They are more common in women because of our anatomical configuration and shorter urethra, but men are certainly not immune.

You may be getting ready for work or shopping or perhaps a trip when the first symptoms appear. You might feel an uncomfortable twinge in the pelvic region or notice that your urine has become cloudy, bloody or odorous…. or you may be one of the “lucky” ones who feels like they’re peeing sandpaper. Sorry for that mental image…but if you’ve ever had a UTI you know that it’s no laughing matter.

So what do you do next??? If you visit your physician he/she will more than likely put you on a course of antibiotics and (if you are lucky) encourage you to drink more water and sugar-free cranberry or blueberry juice as well as stay away from sugar, caffeine and alcohol. This will probably cost about $150 for the appointment and prescription. But it’s doubtful that your physician will explain the possible side effects of antibiotics, or the likelihood that if you don’t drink enough water, the antibiotics may not work effectively. This means, making another appointment, another course of antibiotics and another $150. Since you haven’t been informed of the probability of a large-scale die-off of the friendly bacteria that inhabit your intestinal tract induced by antibiotic therapy, you probably won’t know how to avoid the subsequent condition called candida overgrowth. If the state of candida overgrowth is left unchecked, it can blossom into fibromyalgia. For more information on this, please read about it on the candida page of The Healing Path website.

I’m here to tell you that there is a better way! The Healing Path makes a tincture called Hepa-Health. The cost is $35 for a 4 oz bottle. It was developed for an array of liver, kidney, bladder and pancreatic problems ranging in severity from hepatitis to UTIs. It is made with bitter herbs Gentian, Blessed Thistle, Uva Ursi and Dandelion that have an astringent effect on the digestive and urinary tract. These herbs work as well as antibiotics and don’t interfere with the healthy flora in the urinary and digestive systems. If you have a history of UTIs, order a bottle of Hepa-Health from The Healing Path to have on hand; it will easily last ten years when stored in a cool dark place. At the first sign of a brewing infection, start taking the dose for an acute UTI (2 droppers full per 50 lbs of body weight three times daily for 10 days). If you have other disorders of the kidney, bladder, pancreas, liver or spleen, or if you have 4 or more UTIs per year, you may want to use the preventative dose of Hepa-Health (1 dropper full per 50 lbs of body weight two times daily).

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so remember to:
· Drink 8-10 glasses of water or non-caffeinated tea a day to keep a steady flow. Dehydration can allow bacteria to travel upstream.
· If you are a woman remember to wipe from front to back to prevent e coli bacteria from entering the urethra.
· Also holding your urine too long is not wise as it introduces bacteria to the bladder.
· Both men and women should wash genitals before having sex.
· As much as you may love a good bath, use the shower if you are fighting a UTI

Interestingly enough, spermacides can increase the risk of a UTI; as it kills sperm, it also kills friendly bacteria in the vagina and urinary tract.

If you are doing all of the above and find you are still getting UTIs, it might be time to consider the energetic aspect of this dilemma and ask yourself if you are holding on to resentment or allowing an aggravating situation to exist. A UTI is a metaphysical way of releasing anger. Who or what is causing you to be annoyed? They don’t call it being “pissed off” for nothing.

Love and Light, Lori Jacobs

Author's Bio:

Lori Jacobs was born in Queens NY in 1956 but moved to the pristine Lake Owassa NJ where she lived with her parents, brother and maternal grandparents.
She now has lived with her husband of 40 years in Saylorsburg Pennsylvania since 1988. They have two children, Autumn and Christoffer, both in their 30’s and they are blessed with three grandchildren. Lori has been a practicing Herbalist since 1995 and a Master Energy Healer since 1999. She is a Reiki Master and a “Truth in Healing” Master.
In 1995 she developed a formula for her daughter who, as a senior in high school had Epstein Barr and was very ill. Every doctor told her, “It is her immune system and the only thing you can do is make sure she gets enough rest.” But her daughter was sleeping almost every hour she wasn’t in school. She could barely make it through the day. So Lori decided to take matters into her own hands and follow her instincts, she remembered the herbs that were taught to her as a child by her Norwegian grandmother and her father’s friend who was a Ute Indian. Concentrating on the safest herbs that balanced and strengthened the endocrine (immune) system, she made an herbal tincture she called Endocrine Strengthener. This did help her daughter who was back to normal in about a month’s time.
Lori started taking the Endocrine Strengthener too, in hopes that it would minimize the many colds that she was dealing with. Lori had suffered from alopecia totalis since 1984 and much to her surprise, after several weeks of taking Endocrine Strengthener, she was astonished to find new hair growing and that her hair didn’t fall out as it had for the past 11 years.
Over the years Endocrine Strengthener has demonstrated to be beneficial for many autoimmune disorders such as Lupus, MS, and Crohn’s Disease
Since then, Lori has developed many safe and highly effective herbal tinctures for conditions such as arthritis, migraines, cholesterol, diabetes, urinary tract infections, hepatitis, fibromyalgia, depression, asthma and male/female hormone replacement therapy.
In 2002 she combined her talents of Herbalism and Energy Healing with the start of her new business called “The Healing Path” It is a house-call practice that Lori says is very convenient for her clients. There are times after an energy healing when the client can feel a bit light headed and dizzy, and for that reason it is best that they do not have to drive right away. Being in their own home affords them the opportunity to relax and settle into their energy shift.
Lori also has considerable experience working with clients with candida who have fibromyalgia and those who are interested in weaning off of pharmaceuticals and anti-depressants.
All Lori’s herbal therapies are her own original, handcrafted formulas.
She is a charter member of Northeastern Pennsylvania Holistic Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Holistic Practitioners Healing Arts Network as well as Circle of Healers, American Herbalists Guild, Holistic Networker, Best American Healers, Mind Body Spirit, US Healers, Self Growth and Natural Lifestyle Network.
