UGC NET Application form 2022, Important Dates and Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for UGC NET 2022

The following are the basic requirements for participating in UGC NET 2022:

Maximum age:

For JRF, candidates must be under 31 years old on June 1, 2022 (for the June exam) or December 1, 2022 (for the December exam) (for December exam). For qualifying candidates, a 5-year period of relaxation is provided

Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for the position of Assistant Professor.

Relaxation of the upper age limit:

  • Candidates from the OBC Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL)/ SC/ ST/ PWD/ Transgender categories, as well as women applicants, are given a 5-year age relaxation.
  • Candidates with research experience will also be given a break, but only for the period spent conducting research in the relevant field of their post-graduate degree, up to a maximum of 5 years.
  • Candidates having an LLM degree will be allowed a three-year age relaxation.
  • Candidates who have served in the armed services are eligible for a 5-year relaxation, subject to the length of service in the armed forces up to the first day of the month in which the UGC NET is to be held.

Requirement for academics:

  • Candidates must have a master's degree in Humanities and Social Science (including languages), Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science, or a related field from a recognised university with an overall grade point average of at least 55 percent.
  • The minimum mark required for OBC/ SC/ ST/ PWD/ Transgender applicants is 50%.
  • Those in their last year of a master's degree programme are also eligible to apply.
  • PhD degree holders who finished their master's degree by September 19, 1991 are simply required to pass the qualifying exam with a score of 50%.

Exemption (eligible for assistant professor)

  • Candidates who completed the UGC/ CSIR/ JRF examination prior to 1989 are not need to take the NET exam.
  • Those who passed the UGC-accredited States Eligibility Test (SET) for Assistant Professor prior to June 1, 2002, are exempt from taking the NET and are allowed to apply for Assistant Professor positions throughout India.
  • Qualified applicants for SETs held after June 1, 2002 are only eligible to apply for Assistant Professor positions in universities/colleges located in the state where they passed their SET.
