This post is for anyone who has had a great idea, or wanted to do something but was too scared to give it a try. This post is for the 'miss 100% of the shots you never take' crowd.
When I was in high school, I missed going to the state tournament in track by something like 1/100th of a second. I concluded that it was because I didn't try hard enough. I had been doing good all year so I got a bit complacent throughout the season and honestly stopped trying as hard as I should have of. The other competitors were working hard and I lost.
It was at that moment, I decided that I would never fail to try as hard as I could at anything I would do again. In the coming years, I discovered that by trying as hard as I could
I could never be upset with myself. If you try as hard as you can at something, there could be no other outcome. You did your best, and sometimes your best is met with temporary defeat. It happens. Get over it, chalk it up to a learning experience and move on. Within the last few months, I have found and accepted the last ingredient to this puzzle.
A lot of people have ideas, right? A lot of people came up with the iPhone or the tablet before Apple did, right? They just don't have the balls to do anything about it. So how do you develop the balls then? Well, there are three key elements behind developing balls, hutzpah, audacity, backbone, boldness, cojones, fortitude, courage, guts, nerve, prowess, spunk, spirit, tenacity, or whatever you want to call it.
I am going to give you the steps and I am going to help you implement them. It isn't enough to know how something works, you have to do it to understand it.
Step 1
Write down what you want to do right now. What is it that you are still reading this post over? Starting a business, quitting a job, leaving a relationship, building one, what is the scary thing that once it is working will make you happier but since you are locked in fear you just keep on dreaming and hoping someone will give you something that will make you do what you dream of? It's this post, this is the sign that says now is the time, get up, let's go!
Step 2
Read and Understand These Principles, Live Them, Breath Them, Read Them Fifteen Times Right Now!
51% Principle
Commit to getting at least 51% of your decisions right! Some of the greatest entrepreneurs on Wall st. live by the rule of getting at least 51% of their decisions correct. No longer are you trying to get 100% of everything you do correct, while you would like a high percentage you now know that you are not holding yourself to the standard of 100% correct decisions all the time. You now know that people make millions of dollars, spend their lives happy, and so much more just by that 2% swing. All you have to do is make more good decisions than bad ones, that's it! You can do that right?
Try as Hard as You Can Always!
Everything you do has to be done to the best of your ability. Adopt this principle as a lifestyle, shift the paradigm now! Do not half ass anything anymore, if you go grocery shopping, you shop the hell out of those groceries!
If you are laying a brick, that brick needs to be as perfectly laid as a brick can be laid, do everything as perfect as you can. When you honestly feel that you have done your best, outcomes will not affect you, it is only when you felt that you could have tried harder that you feel guilty for letting yourself and others down.
Lastly, Do Not Fall Victim To This!
There are so many people in the world that think they are trying their hardest. They think that they are giving 100% but they are not, they are giving 80%. This is a sure fire way to discourage yourself. Once you make a decision to be successful you give your all to it. No excuses, just outcomes. You can do this.
As Always,
Joey Poltor
