Everyone has experienced the discomfort of panic. While some panic is normal, it's a problem if its overtaking your life. If this is the case, then you need to take steps to get this under control as soon as possible.
Panic in of itself isn't a bad thing. It works with adrenaline to keep people out of danger. But it's a problem when there is no clear danger, and your mind and body are reacting to small issues, telling you that you are in danger.
Here are some things that you can do to overcome those moments of panic:
1. First, Breathe: Deep breathing helps you to find your center. You can refocus and calm your mind from those racing thoughts.
2. Take heed to your health: There is a mind and body connection that helps people to stay healthy. To that end, check out what might be lacking in your life. If you are eating bad food, not excercising, or not sleeping well, then these can all be contributing factors to your panic attacks.
3. Get medical or professional health: You can go to a doctor, a therapist, or even to a naturopath. But the important thing is that you see someone to help you get your panic attacks under control. Sometimes you might need medication. Your doctor will diagnose you if you in fact need medication.
4. Figure out what's bothering you: What is it that is bothering you? What might be triggering your panic attacks? If you can figure out the answer to this question, then you will be able to address a source of panic
5. Learn to manage stress: If you are stressed out, then you will experience moments of panic. But if you can do things to keep the stress down, then you will be able to stave off those moments of panic.
For example, exercise does a wonderful job at keeping stress low, and panic at bay. Try yoga, or some form of stretching. You should try meditation,or prayer, whatever makes you feel calm, refreshed, and able to handle the day in front of you.
6. Cut back on caffeine and alcohol: These substances are known panic causers. Caffeine makes you more jittery. Alcohol makes you depressed, foggy, or less able to use your natural coping skills.
You don't have to be enslaved to your panic attacks! Panic happens to everyone, but if you learn healthy coping techniques, then you can keep panic under control.
