There are many different elements involved in marketing and sales but no matter what industry you are in or what job title you hold, having a basic understanding of how your company brings the money in is vital to gain success.

Technology is a major aspect of our lives these days and as a result, internet marketing has become a must. The advances in technology have opened up a whole new platform to generate sales but it has also created a much more competitive business podium.

Each day when we log on to our computer, tablet or phone we are bombarded with emails, adverts and links. A huge percentage of these are marketing techniques, whether it is selling a product, a service or simply seeking awareness and attention.

Standing out from this crowd is a huge challenge. How are you different from the rest and why should people take any notice? These are two questions you should ask yourself. Don’t be put into the junk mail criteria. A study has shown that over 85% of customers have a negative view of all salespeople. Be it over the phone, face to face or via email these all apply.

It is hard to steer away from the cliché when it comes to marketing and sales and this is ultimately because we are so focused on the making our money that we forget the people we are targeting are just normal people. We are more likely to indulge ourselves in a product or service if we like the salesperson behind it. This may seem an irrelevant statement for web ads and web banners but it’s the overall feeling that is important. The audience wants to feel as if it is aimed directly at them.

Internet marketing can be a bore but when you think outside of the box you will be surprised how much impact a small change can have. When writing and producing an ad, think about what would intrigue you to read on. Turn your text from the usual ‘Buy one, get one free’ to ‘Once upon a time’. If it’s funny, interesting or clever you will attract not only people looking for your relevant service or product but people who would normally disregard your product or service.

If you want to develop and improve your sales and marketing performance then you may want to consider taking a sales course or marketing course. There are many courses that are available to you all with different focuses. Choosing which route will help you best is all dependant on how educated you already are, what you would like to achieve and what line of work you are in.

You will be able to find courses from an introductory level to managing marketing departments. There will be some courses that are centered around negotiation skills and some that are taking a closer look at relationship management.

A sales course can give you an edge on how to approach clients and it will give you a clear way of putting your knowledge into practice effectively. A marketing course can help you acquire strategic selling skills and how to apply them in your work. Each course will be hugely varied, so make sure you choose wisely.
