The Ring That Rules Them All

Few of us understand the importance of time. We take it for granted, and once we take something for granted we no longer give it our attention, we no longer wonder about it and in so doing, we deny ourselves the deeper understanding necessary to take advantage of the power of time. If this idea is new to you then it is all the proof you need that you have taken time for granted and do not understand its importance, especially as it applies to successful achievement. This article focuses the light of our attention on this seemingly unimportant concept.

Elements of the success equation are the human characteristics of desire, will, vision, intention, commitment, determination, perseverance, courage, faith and patience. Patience is the consequence of an understanding of the importance of time. Patience is the ring that rules them all because without patience, there can be no success, the lack of patience can shut down any effort or project. More time and energy have been wasted because of the misuse of this element than all the others combined.

Success, Almost

Almost successful is just another description of failure. We can set achievable goals, make reasonable plans to achieve those goals, build strategies necessary to carry out those plans and still fail. And even when we are examining everything to determine what went wrong, we fail to realize the significance of the element of time and its place in our plans. Perhaps we didn't give one phase of our project enough time, or too much time to another. Perhaps we forgot about the time of the year and how that relates to the location of the project.

Of course this is all about time as it relates to activities, conditions and events in the physical material world. But is time just as important in self improvement projects? This is a no brainer, it is as important if not more important in the mental, emotional and spiritual world. Anyone who meditates knows this for certain. One of the first things we become aware of through meditation is the extent to which our species is configured for instant gratification. Patience does not exist in such a configuration and therefore time is of little significance. But the practice of meditation forces us to develop self discipline in this area among others, and this means that we must focus our attention on time and penetrate its true nature in order to achieve a deep understanding of this concept.

Can't Use What We Don't Know

The deeper our understanding of something the more thoroughly we can take advantage of it and use it, and the better we can use something the better the results we will achieve and the more successful we will be. I know that time is not usually thought of as a tool or element of success, we use it unconsciously and believe that we are taking full advantage of it. But are we? Mostly we think of time as a ho hum subject, but people who have thought deeply on this idea and have learned how to use its power know better.

Think about what we mean by the word symbols 'aware of the present moment'. Our awareness of time and where our attention is at any given moment in time is of critical importance. You are sitting at a computer reading this article, engaging in a visual form of communication that takes advantage of your ability to see. You are a living process that is dynamically changing every second as you breath in and out, your current environment is pouring into your sensory system but you are little aware of it because your attention is focused on this article, yet an endless parade of phenomenon is arising and disappearing constantly as you sit before the computer reading this. This is all happening within the context of the present moment, the only time that is actually real. Think about it!

There is a great e-book that explores success and power here.
