We all know about how important it is to have a web connection these days. But many individuals are still without this access in their homes. Some people can't get access because it is not available. Others simply refuse to pay for Internet access. Because of how much the web means to us all, you would think that there would be fewer barriers blocking people from gaining access.

Many individuals in their sixties or seventies are not very familiar with the Internet. They do not believe that the net is relevant to their lives and is not worth paying for. Many of these individuals have a negative perception of it and focus on the dangers of the net for young children. Therefore, they tend to be unaware of how to operate a computer and fail to see the importance of technology because of this disconnect from it.

There are still a small percentage of people that want to get online at home but feel that they can't. Many of these don't have a computer at home. Some of those that do have an internet ready device, lack the skills and understanding of how to use them. There are issues with cost as well. Those that don't have any device to use see the cost as being a big barrier. The cost can be a big stopping point for people in low income brackets. These as well as others can find free access to the net through the public library and other spots.

Others have the desire to go on the Internet but still feel like it will break their budgets. These individuals tend to be those who own a PC but don't know what a web browser is and how to hook up the computer to the web. Some of these people have the desire to gain access but still think in the back of their minds that they just don't have a major need for it. Those who are scared to go online because they are unsure of themselves and what they are doing can learn very easily how to surf the Internet in no time.

The most common barriers that prevent people from going online are actually quite simple to understand. Some people simply haven't learned how to go online. Others are more concerned about the price of access to the net and don't' want to add another bill to their mounting stack of monthly bills. Some people just assume that access is not available in their area. In reality, many remote locations have satellite Internet access available to users, and in some instances, the government will pay to have it hooked up for you.
